Buying Sony/Samsung TV from Dubai ?

sorry for hi-jacking the tread, need urgent help. instead of creating new thread i thought you guys will help me...

Query - buying Sony / Samsung led from Dubai, a friend is coming back from there. How are the prices (links will be helpful), warranty applicable?
Any problem on arrivals(custom duty etc.)
I appreciate your help.

@Vagabond Buying a TV from Dubai can be a tad risky ... there inst a Lot of difference in prices to be Honest ..(half my maternal family is in Dubai) ..and I mean risky cos when they claim its too good for the price .. you'd get gutted stuff .. like Panasonic in sony .. etc ...but if your buying from a legitimate store ..even then passing a TV through customs is a hassle .. considering the custom policies ( you have to pay the designated .. import duties for all electronics that are boxed and your not currently using ) the warranty .. on certain products .. may not apply here ... and people out here refuse at times to even cater to repairs for that reason ... (company warranties may vary ) But even so ... If hes buying it for you and if you don't mind paying off the duty and such it would pass rather smoothly ..

I don't think so. This step will only increase the local sales, I don't see any impact on increase in local prices. If there is, it might be because of Rupee falling down.

Would suggest to only buy it if you wanna save that much money, as there are cases where after purchase of the TV, it has conked off in two weeks. Also, dont forget that there might be damage in transit too. Finally, in case of any issue, it wont be serviced here even if it has international warranty. And dont forget the extra custom duties

With new rules in place It doesnt make any sense in taking LED from Bangkok or abroad. You will be paying huge tax now onwards.

Offtopic but this government has snatched away everything from the middle class. Now unless you are rolling in moolah you will have to buy some shitty last generation tv and make do with the same.
