Buying Xbox Advise???

After a lots of research, I finally decide to spend my hard earned cash (ok, I am lying here, it's sourced from my dad) on the original XBox Console. Some people may argue on why not to buy PS2. Well, I will list the advantage Xbox has over standard PS2.

1)Almost 95% of games are made for both the console, i.e. PS2 and XBox. Some people may argue over console exclusive game for PS2 like Devil May Cry, God of War etc. But even XBox has it own exclusive i.e. Ninja Gaiden, Halo, GRAW, HL2, DOOM3, ROE. Hey, wait a min. XBox has more exclusive games than PS2. Just that very few people knew.

2)Better graphics. Admit it people, XBox has a better graphic engine than PS2.

3)Integrated HDD. Also can upgrade to 120 GB easily and 300 GB by softmodding. Something which is not possible by the new slim PS2 and hard to get it running on the old fatboy PS2.

4)Integrated Network Adaptor. The fatboy doesnt has one, unless you get the network adaptor kit, which isnt available anymore. So, the choice in PS2 will be either HDD or network. My choice, take Xbox and have both.

5)Media Centre Suit on Xbox runs better than PS2. PS2 jerks a lot and cannot play all king of MPEG-4 videos. Where as Xbox media suits such as XBMC eveb throw in visualization while playing MP3 over the network from my PC HDD. Videos can be streamed from my PC to XBOX and finally display on TV. Now, I can watch DivX/Xvid movies easily on my 29" TV without the need of a DivX players.

6)Xbox fully supports Dolby Surround Sound 5.1 out of the box, where as PS2 only supports Dolby Digital Sound (stereo).

7)The console wont only act as a game console, but as a complete entertainment centre. I will throwing in a very high quality of 5.1 speakers from K-Lipsh.

Now, here the list of the stuff, I will be ordering very soon. However, I couls use all the idea, views, suggestions and death threat from the experts over here.

Maybe, I will also buy in the WiFi module for Xbox, since my house is already wi-fi ed. But, I am worried about the transfer speed and playing DVD Movies over the wi-fi can choke the bandwidth. Anyways, this is completly optional.

Well you'll have a tough time connecting the klipsch pm ultra 5.1 to the xbox cos the klipsch is analog only and the xbox only has 5.1 digital out. Klipsch used to sell a dolby decoder earlier but now it is no longer available AFAIK. Also its been EOL'ed now so it doesn't make a wise investment.
 
Xbox is almost DEAD! And ps2 still has a bright future ahead for at least 2 years more (Sony themselves said it at E3 and we got some killer games releasing at the end of the year)

Xbox has its exclusives? Sure every console does, but Ps2 still has a much, much impressive library. Re4, MGS3, GoW 1 and 2, WWE SM series and it goes on and on forever. And while games are still releasing for Ps2, Xbox's production is almost dead and 360 is being promoted instead.

Xbox is a powerful console, but it doesn't get backed up with many games. Halo, Ninja Gaiden, Fable and some 2-3 more games is what all it has as exclusives.

I'd go for the Ps2 if i were you.
 
Its not just for the games, i am buying the console. BTW, the only exlcusive game left for PS2 now is GOD 2. In case, you didnt know, games which are getting released for Xbox 360 are also released on Xbox. Farcry, GRAW and still many more to come, which all exclusive for Xbox.
 
Xbox any day over, for the simple fact its much more easily moddable. You can run Linux on it for christ's sake.

Also evil, instead of buying an Xbox from here, order an Xbox360 from US they are gonna be cheaper in the days to come.
 
Well, XBox 360 still hasnt been reversed engineered yet. :P. Ya, pastrykunal PM me the detail of your Xbox and version.

Xbox in india and US is about the same, better get the xbox360 as xbox is phasing out but xbox360 isnt modable but will be in the near future

It really depends. Xbox has games that resembles those you would find on the pc - more shooters and racers. PS2 is more platforming, rpg oriented.

Perhaps, if you mentioned your budget, and if it were large enough you could go for the X360 instead(the premium version) which is backwards compatible with xbox games thus giving you the full library of the xbox plus the ones that come on the 360.
 
Nish Xbox 360 isn't Modded as yet so going for it now would be stupid ! I would suggest Ps2 over Xbox for the sole reson of the game library ! Yes Xbox does have some exclusives but if u compare them to ps2 its nothing ! And who told u that games released on the xbox 360 will be released for xbox as well ? Accept the fact dude , Xbox is Dead Now, even microsoft admitted that !Whereas ps2 will go on strong for atleast another 3 years ! See the PS2 Sticky for the upcoming games on PS2 ! Just to name a Few : SVR 2007 , God of war 2 , Da Vinci Code , Gta Liberty city , Final Fantasy XII , Okami , F1 2006 , TNA wrestling , Hitman Blood Money , Scarface and many many more ! The List Just Goes on and on and on ! And what does xbox have now ? Nothing ! Yes Xbox Graphics r better then PS2 but the difference is so little that u may not even notice in some games ! Then PS2 is also cheaper and better Looking ! And about the entertainment part , well there many third party softwares available for the PS2 which will run almost every Video format ! So My suggestion , go for the PS2 Straightaway, if u wanna game in Future !

Never go for Xbox , instead buy a Xbox 360 which is available for rs 16000 ! But it wont be modded so wait for another 3-4 months !

You made this thread for suggestions and I have Given Mine ! You may as well listen to certain members who have never owned a console and just posting crap ( no offence ) ! At the End the choice is Yours !

A friend of mine called me just yesterday and told me the x360's been modded at a place in National market. I do'nt neccessarily trust this guy but it's worth the check.

Actually, I do own a PS2 since it has games that I prefer. I can however understand people wanting to get the xbox instead. It has a better collection of shooters, racers and western rpg's.
 
^^x360 is still not modded for sure. Your friend was wrong. However I do agree with your other points. The only rpgs u'd get on the ps2 are the ff series and similar games which are probably meant only for the japanese market. Hard to find anything that uses D&D rulesets.
 
No, the American and Euro markets are also absolutely crazy over games like finalfantasy and whatever other Japanese games that come with the ps2. It's the xbox that has had a horrible time in the Japanese market.

That's the reason why Sony continues to dominate. In India, the xbox should actually be more popular since pc gaming dominates here and xbox is much like a pc itself.
 
I already mentioned about not to discriminate the console on the basis of games. Both consoles have great exclusive games. I was seeking an advice regarding being an entertainment centre.

Please do some research before you post over here. PS2 Linux is only installable in HDD enabled PS2. The new slim model doesnt has HDD compartment and the old fatboy lacks network adaptor. Both of them are important to me as I will be streaming and storing my DVD back up on the HDD.

thx for ur advise, but I find no real good reason to go for PS2. As far PS2 titles are concerned, I highly doubt, they will last for another three years. Maybe max of 1 year after PS3 is released, but none of them will be killer games.
 
Wow. Sorry about the side-tracking. It's just that even now I ca'nt imagine someone getting a gaming console for the sole intent of playing movies. That does make sense in absurd way though.

A general question to anyone. Are'nt there any dvd players that have built in HDD?
 
In case your only use of the machine is as a media center, you are far better off building a cheap HTPC instead of buying an xbox.
 
^^True but a HTPC for under 10k isn't possible. So for occassional gaming and some divx/xvid playback the xbox would be a great choice. However both the ps2/xbox are a dying breed now so if gaming is also a concern i'd suggest you wait for the x360 to get modded and be able to run homebrew.
 
Naa its very much possible if you get a cheap sempron and 512MB of memory. Of course you won't be able to get a jazzy looking case but the HTPC will get the job done for sure. But then it definitely won't be able to run any games :P
