Finally i kicked my stupid Hathway Internet connection....
Took an Airtel 256 instead...
And must say I am impressed by the Service quality shown....

Friday evening, I got a message on my Hathway 24online client saying ur account has expired.....Since the Hathway guys had not given me any notification whatsoever (I used to pay 3 months in advance), I called em up and asked them to activate, and also to send someone to collect the payment ...
They said they can't activate it till the payment is made...I was like, fine..send someone in that case....No one turns up on friday..Sat morn, I give em a call again...then another couple of calls through the day , but to no avail....EVerytime, I would tell em that send someone over the weekeend as I will not be available on weekdays...
Sunday morning, I call up and am told that the billing office is closed and they can't send anyone before Monday...This was the last straw!

Monday afternoon, I called up the airtel folks...one of their sales rep got in touch with me...came down to my house at 9 PM (that's when I usually reach back home) and collected the papers...I asked him if he could get me the connection by tomorrow (i.e Tuesday)...he doesn't commit, buut says he will try....
Tuesday (y'day) afternoon, he calls me and asks me when the linemen can come to setup the connection to wich I said if it would be possible for them to come late evening (Given the fact that my house stay slocked through the day)...
I reached home by 8PM and the linesmen were waiting for me...they setup the connection by 8:30 and called up the DSL team....The DSL team rep came down by 9:15 and set up the connection by 10PM.......

Wow...way to go.....They setup a landline phone and a ADSL connection within 24 hours of getting the form filled.....I am impressed.... :)

If any chennai folks want the Sales rep's phone no, PM me....he is one of the nicest and most efffective sales reps I have seen.....

tha's ok..I'd rather have a dependable connection than a cheap but non trustworthy POS...

I anyway have 256 unltd for 500/- till November end (some spl offer) ...after that, I'll either switch to the 128 unltd for 600/- or 256 unltd for 900/-

Who knows, maybe by then airtel too drops the prices for 256 unltd

^^^ very true...

i phone he customer care at 10PM, he says the person will contact me in 20 mins, he calls me 9AM next day :|

Im very happy with hathway now.

They had given me a bill of 11000 bux, i said i will only Pay 5500, if you want it take it, if you want to cut the connection cut it, ill get sumthing cheaper and better than ur connection "Exatt"..

I talked to Vijay the representative of the billing dep. who had come..

muahah mission accomplished...

In my case, it was like call at 9PM Friday night,,,,,calll returned Monday evening....

Every now & then , my net would go down with Hathway...On complaining they woul tell me it's due to a cable cut or some other vague reason....

Not only would I be paying for the duration while the net is not up, but I also paid for using my slow back-up Reliance phone based net....

At least with Airtel, they have a Service level guarantee of 4 hours

^^

i got a extension of 2 days this month for the downtimes...

some f*** turns off the power after 10PM in a cybercafe, the whole net is down :cursing:

My Airtel connection landed up pretty soon as well !

Same story as yours - filled up the form one day, asked him when it would come, he said around 48 hours. So I was in no hurry, surprisingly next morning itself they tried reaching me to come set up the connection (was at college, so told em to come sometime in the evening when i get back). Evening and they came home, set up the connection.

As the linesmen left, I asked them how soon till the DSL line gets set up? His reply , the guy who can set up the DSL modem will come tomorrow. Half n hour later, another guy lands up with the modem etc and proceeds to install the stuff. I was pretty shocked for a while

And yep, even the Airtel guy I was dealing with advised me to go in for the 500 bucks a month regular 256K plan for the introductory 3 month unlimited usage period. Said that after the promotional period is over, I could just give him a call and he'd switch me to the unlimited plans - like Superczar says, hopefully prices will drop even more by then :)

One note though, the Airtel bill shows you your entire DSL usage in rupees, and then on the next line adds a "100% discount" effectively making your usage Zero. When I first got my bill, saw the Rs. 12K usage and got a shock, till i saw the next line about the 100% discount ! So first time users be prepared for the shock :p

Another thing, while it is pretty easy to get hooked up onto the plan - switching from one plan to another takes significantly longer. In my cousin's case, took him almost a week till they switched his plan. I think Bottle too was on the 128K connection and wanted to switch to the 256K plan - he had to wait for a quite a bit again.

Good that you told me in advance...I'd have got arrhythmia on receiving my bill otherwise

switching from one plan to another takes significantly longer

Guess that's OK...three months, I can track my usage pattern, and request a shift a little before the end of the plan duration if needed

BTW any idea how much a ADSL modem costs in the open market?...If it isn't much, might as well buy instead of buying 100/- extra each month

Your speed is controlled or as we say "capped" by your modem, you uncap your modem and you have unlimited speed, that is ofcourse the max your line can support.
