Your speed is controlled or as we say "capped" by your modem, you uncap your modem and you have unlimited speed, that is ofcourse the max your line can support.

If caught with an uncapped modem - be ready to pay heavy fines..or even go to jail - that's some of the punishtments for uncapping some ISP's in the U.S.

Another thing, while it is pretty easy to get hooked up onto the plan - switching from one plan to another takes significantly longer. In my cousin's case, took him almost a week till they switched his plan. I think Bottle too was on the 128K connection and wanted to switch to the 256K plan - he had to wait for a quite a bit again.

Naa it was just a phone call away for me.They switched from my then 128kbps to the 256kbps unlimited in about a day or so.No filling forms no BS !:eek:hyeah:

yeah but he changed ISP's, you switched to an upgrade = HUUUGE difference :bleh:

And it was a phone call for me as well, in fact the guy said i've get the upgrade in 5 working day's, i got the upgrade the very next day.

seems like im the only one who had to wait quite a long time (2 months :( before getting my airtel connexion. but cant blame them, they had some sorta problem with the corporation over digging the road to lay cables. fortunately, one of my relatives was working in airtel and i had to go thru him to get the connection.

but after that, there's been no problems what so ever. and the change in plans take only one day, max two.

Finally i kicked my stupid Hathway Internet connection....
Took an Airtel 256 instead...
And must say I am impressed by the Service quality shown....

Friday evening, I got a message on my Hathway 24online client saying ur account has expired.....Since the Hathway guys had not given me any notification whatsoever (I used to pay 3 months in advance), I called em up and asked them to activate, and also to send someone to collect the payment ...
They said they can't activate it till the payment is made...I was like, fine..send someone in that case....No one turns up on friday..Sat morn, I give em a call again...then another couple of calls through the day , but to no avail....EVerytime, I would tell em that send someone over the weekeend as I will not be available on weekdays...
Sunday morning, I call up and am told that the billing office is closed and they can't send anyone before Monday...This was the last straw!

Monday afternoon, I called up the airtel folks...one of their sales rep got in touch with me...came down to my house at 9 PM (that's when I usually reach back home) and collected the papers...I asked him if he could get me the connection by tomorrow (i.e Tuesday)...he doesn't commit, buut says he will try....
Tuesday (y'day) afternoon, he calls me and asks me when the linemen can come to setup the connection to wich I said if it would be possible for them to come late evening (Given the fact that my house stay slocked through the day)...
I reached home by 8PM and the linesmen were waiting for me...they setup the connection by 8:30 and called up the DSL team....The DSL team rep came down by 9:15 and set up the connection by 10PM.......

Wow...way to go.....They setup a landline phone and a ADSL connection within 24 hours of getting the form filled.....I am impressed.... :)

If any chennai folks want the Sales rep's phone no, PM me....he is one of the nicest and most efffective sales reps I have seen.....

people are always quick to respond when they are getting new customers....its when youve paid the bill and "keeping the customer happy" comes in that companies slack....

except for BSNL....they slack all the time...especially in WB...where its all bengalis coming to office @ 11am and going home by 3pm[while having an hour long lunch break in between of course..] and the "chelas" are saying "babu to ghar gaya, kal kam hoga"

"CHOLBE NA! CHOLBE NA!"

Note- this post wasn't trying to be offensive or racist but just the general behaviour of most government employees here

hehe...Hathway almost made me pull out my hair in agony even when I was taking my connection...they twice made me come back from office by saying that their linemen will cme around 6:00 who never turned up....

tha's ok..I'd rather have a dependable connection than a cheap but non trustworthy POS...

I anyway have 256 unltd for 500/- till November end (some spl offer) ...after that, I'll either switch to the 128 unltd for 600/- or 256 unltd for 900/-

Who knows, maybe by then airtel too drops the prices for 256 unltd

Thats awesome, I pay 550 bucks for a 64 kbps connection.. But one thing good abt my connection is that it just goes down 2-3 days a mth unlike Satyam crap which I hear is just up for a few days in a mth.

sify is improved now since they laid fiber right up to my building.

And airtel has wired up each and every house in my building society!

All we have to do is ask them for a connection and it will be provided by simply connecting the wire from the junction box they have installed on each floor to your internal wiring - about 40 seconds job!

Service will start in two or three months. Yipee!!!!

The sales guy told me that they have a 4 hour service guarantee...if a complaint is not rsolved in 4 hours, they'll crdit 100/- in the next bill....

Now am keeping my fingers crossed n wishing that they give 256 unltld for 500/- by Nov...or who knows, maybe 512 unltd...:eek:hyeah: dream on dreamer...

:)

oh yeah, especially the surfboard series that I use here with hathway :p

peice-a-cake.. but i don't want to get into legal troubles :p so never uploaded the edited bin file to the hathway dhcp server :p

r u able2 use custom configs(self made configs) on hathway? thats nice..no md5 thingy?

u using sigma or hackware?

anyway congrats :) enjoy..heh

Airtel does have fixed line licenses... after that unified license thing anyone can provide any service if they have a license for that area and airtel has services in mumbai (mobile). They are takinh their time due to business reasons.. mumbai i a big mkt, and they probably don't want to go there in a half baked fashion.

They are coming to Pune in a couple of months as I mentioned earlier and they are doing it the right way - setting up all the infrastructure first.

hehe..this stuff is goooooood :p last hours were slooow..just 35KBps..else it wud be 90KBps avg :p
