for all those of who hav done this mod please post their rig pics, and suggest which material can i use in the side and also which tool to use to cut the cab!!!!!:hap2:

you can use transparent plastic. I think there are some plastics shops in thakaraparamb, specially near telematics(if you dony know where telematics is , ask around :P and telematics isnt the plastics shop.the shop is near it only), who should be able to do what you need. You'll have to tell them exactly what you want though.

neon tubes would be tough. blue LED's should be more realistic

IMHO it is more trouble than it is worth. IF you are still interested , go ahead.

the material used for the side panel window is Plexiglass ...commonly referred to as Acrylic.
The tools you can use is either
1. Metal cutting shears - very crude
2. Rotary tool kits - like dremel or a cheaper chinese alternative (XKE rotary took kit)
3. Power Jigsaw

You can check this thread for some of the tools and lights you will need for your project

1)Firstly....never use a rotary tool to cut acrylic...you will be left with a semi solid acrylic paste:( ....too high rpm...Use rotary tool for metal cutting and filing of metal and acrylic....

best to use a acrylic cutter or a get it cut in a saw.....

2) Watch the KMD recommended Vid...mnpctech vid....simple awesome vid...:hap2:

3) For metal cutting, if its your first time get it done by some1 else(metal cutters)....

if you want to do this 1 time....no use buying the tools....

4)get the 3m tape....its like super glue....clean and best to use

argh, i had a feeling you would misunderstand me ...

the shop is NEAR telematics. telematics sells electronic spares- just a well known shop to locate the plastics shop

This might be useful reading. http://www.techenclave.com/show-off/the-story-of-my-rig-97472.html?mode=hybrid

I would suggest you get the metal sheet cut by a professional, it will cost more, but it will be much neater. Also, the acrylic sheet will not need a lot of cutting - just make sure it fits BETWEEN the upraised metal parts that fit into the case slots. After that, you need to have a little curve cut off from the side so that ( only if the case has those side plastic 'locks') it fits neatly in. Have some holes drilled proportionately and screw in the acrylic sheet, that's it.

I've got some more lights in the case now, btw. Haven't taken pics in a while though!

Edit - had one with UV reactive SATA and IDE cable. Glow worms on Flickr - Photo Sharing!

^ @KMD : I used 4mm thick sheeting. It was flexible yet strong, it didn't bend easily. Since we're cutting out a lot of metal, the side panel becomes weak, the 4mm thickness reinforces the side panel.

Uh buddy..

Get the acrylic sheet of around 3-4mm thickness from shops tat makes plasic boards and no. plates..

I'd got 2 sheets of 300mmX300mm fer around 220 bucks from thrissur last yr..

U can have 80-120mm dias fer those fans cut off from 'em beautifully.. They'd do it.. Hardly costs 50 bucks fer the job..

Get some bling-bling from KMD.. CCFLs and LED fans ie.

^^^The dremel.. Its actually a brand tag to be precise..

The real one will set u bak by around 4.5-5grand..

U get cheapo iones from 1.3k onwards..

Hey,

Check out my rig here:
http://www.techenclave.com/rig-gallery/viewgallery-616.html

I took the side panel to a shop where they had 4mm Acrylic sheets and they cut acrylic as well. The person dere cut the metal and also cut the acrylic. I asked him to cut the holes so also he did dat. The edges of the metal were rough so, i searched a lot and found the rubber bending or something they call it in a helmet repair shop and got it fixed. Came home took 3M 2 side tape and fixed the acrylic. And there it goes for 220 or 250 bucks total and a day spent.

It's not dat much a hassle if u spent a day u are free ad some 250 bucks. And it looks too cool compared to before.:ohyeah:

@clown_abhi: From where did you get it done? if Mumbai, can you please provide direction/address to the shops you mentioned?

that is what i meant by transparent plastic in the first place. just go to thakaraparamb and look for the plastics shops
