Cable net router suggestion for sharing net connection

Guys, i don't have any idea about the routers as such as i was using ADSL router from D Link for MTNL connection, :S

Now i m planning to opt for cable net of <1MBPS connection.
I need two connections from it, one for my PC and other for my cousin,

Which router i can use to divide the connection and use simultaneously at both ends? :ashamed:

which one would be better from functionality point of view?
and how much would be the price diff....depends on that....wht you suggest?

IMHO the wired routers are things of past for home users..better to go for wireless router, they come with 4 ethernet ports i.e you can connect four PC's through wired connection and others wirelessly.

The basic wireless router costs ~1.5K and you can go for brands like Belkin,Asus,Netgear,Linksys etc.

thanks for the suggestion dude...

can you help me with the brands? which one would you prefer? as i said i need to connect only two PCs that's it !!

is it possible to use it even for gaming on LAN, just asking ??

you can use it for LAN gaming too.
So far I used only belkin routers, no problems at all, go for N150 or N300 Belkin router as per your budget.
Netgear and Asus routers are also good. There is an asus router on sale in Dealer's paradise section which support torrent download along with basic router functions.

thanks for the reply tg....!!
does router affect use of torrents? i mean i can use torrents on any of the routers....isn't it?
hey can i have \adsl connection with them as well? like can i use MTNL connection too....if i need it?
like ADSL+ETHERENT PORTS....just wana make sure before i go to the dealer and ask for something.. :ashamed:

Belkin F5D7634sa4A G Wireless Modem Router

what do you think about this? or is there any option economical?

What I mean't by torrent download is that you don't have to keep your pc on for downloading, just connect external hdd with your router and download torrents directly.Check Asus RT-N13U router.
AFAIK you can use any router with ADSL modem. Are you looking for a wireless ADSL router or normal router?

No point in buying a G router, at that price you can easily buy a N300 router.

+rep for the help dude !!

I need router which I can use with MTNL triband (ADSL) and Cable net as well...!!
was looking into sites....
Belkin N150 Enhanced Wireless Router
Netgear N300 Wi-Fi Wireless Range Max Router JWNR2000
Netgear N300 Wi-Fi Wireless Range Max Router WNR2000v2
BELKIN N300 SURF WIRELESS ROUTER 3 YEAR WARRANTY

however following is the only which offers ADSL connection :
Netgear DGN1000 Wireless-N 150 ADSL2 + Router BILL+2YR

can you please suggest any particular model that i can buy? other than what i have listed and less costly or so, if possible...thanks !! :)

^^ IMHO better to buy a cable router and connect it to your MTNL adsl modem and share your internet.
Of the above listed , Netgear JWNR and WNR are almost same with only difference that WNR offer to have Internet usage meter and Live Parental Control.
so better to go with any of these - Netgear N300 JWNR or WNR or Belkin N300.
If on a tight budget or want only a basic router - N150 is your choice.

BTW I haven't used Netgear but they do make good routers and Belkin offers one of the best after sales service.
Got my N150 replaced from accel frontline instantly.

can you use MTNL triband over ur router ie does it have ADSL capability?

and how many LAN ports you have for sharing connection friend?

yes you can share any internet connection with normal router. Your MTNL ADSL modem will be connected to router WAN port and your pc's will be connected to LAN ports.
a router normally has 4 LAN ports

so for how much you bought for yours friend? i can by the same model right?

i can share cable net...buy having 1 LAN cable input and two outputs to two different PCs.

yes .. I having a local ISP..the ADSL wont be needed here ...only a basic router [for me its Belkin G+wifi] .but its suggested you go for N router :D ...everything will work fine .. I have worked with 1 PC wired and 4 wireless together :D no problems faced.

i am also planning to have it from Local ISP but want to have ADSL as a stand by...so that i can use my MTNL if needed !!

that's why it's difficult to finalise the router...i ll be going for N router but which model....N150 or N300? and there are too many varients...dat;s why i was asking tg which one he has ... and does it have ADSL + LAN port?

yeah you can connect your ADSL router to this one as well :)... ADSL + Router will be costly ...rather get a router N300 or ASUS one if you will be dwnloading torrents a lot .... and use you ADSL in the intermediate stage ... LAN wire >ADSL>Router>PC or Lappy or for local ISP its LAN wire > router >PC or Lappy.

tg, i do not have ADSL modem/router with me now but need to buy !!
That's why i am looking for one having both option in which i can either use MTNL by phone line>ADSL port of router>Lan port of PC or
Cable line>Lan port of router>Lan port of two PCs

you getting me wrong frnd.....my ADSL router is not good anymore....!!
so rather tha n buying two...wanted one router having both....ADSL + Lan...so that i can use it the way i want !!

yeah it will work i had tried once :) ADSL+Router wifi would cost bit high :) but its a one time investment .. so go through the Forums .. and get the best buy I would suggest one with USB support ...as 3G with new prices might be a choice in near future

But an ADSL wont be necessary for the cable ISP ... as far as I have dealt with them they dont need an ADSL

Cable ISP surely dont need but need it for MTNL triaband !!

any more suggestions for which router to buy having all this and some price range?
