Call of Juarez Gunslinger heading back West on XBLA, PSN, and PC

Techland is traveling back to a time before boundaries, laws and the scathing reviews of Call of Juarez: The Cartel. The Old West is once again the backdrop for the developer's latest first-person shooter, Call of Juarez Gunslinger, which should hit Xbox Live Arcade, PlayStation Network and PC in early 2013.

Juarez the last game veered off course and into a contemporary urban setting, Gunslinger makes a returning run past backwater saloons, crusty spittoons and the "untold stories" of a few notorious gunmen. Your own accomplishments, as described by an unreliable narrator throughout the game, intersect with "Wanted" poster boys Billy the Kid, Jesse James and Pat Garrett, amongst others.

An early build of Call of Juarez Gunslinger gave us a good grasp of Techland's approach, which seems cognizant of what Bound in Blood (widely considered the best game in the series) got right. Shooting is stylish, frantic, and constantly rewarded by spurts of blood and points. These numerical rewards are funneled into a set of skill upgrades, which improve your gun-twirling prowess in diverse ways. Acquire the right abilities and you'll extend your bullet-time bravado, decrease your reloading times and make perfect headshots mid-air.

Such incredible maneuvers must be hell on your back, though. You can't bend down and pick up a fallen enemy's gun until you purchase that skill.

Debut Trailer:

The last game was pure disappointment hopefully this brings back the 2nd COJ game glory

The Cartel was a fail of epic proportions! I really hope Techland has realised the mistake and has it sorted out for Gunslinger.

Seeing how this is a downloadable title, I don't have much hope on visual aspect. The least they could do, is bring in a good storyline.

Code of the West Trailer:

Game hitting XBLA, PSN and PC in May

Ubisoft has announced a Call of Juarez: Gunslinger release date of May 22. The game will be priced at £11.99 on PSN and PC and 1200 MSP (£10.28) on Xbox Live.

Pre-ordering the PC version will give players immediate access to the second entry in the Call Of Juarez series, Call Of Juarez: Bound in Blood. Uplay pre-orders will also grant players access to an exclusive pack of weapons.

Gunslinger is the fourth entry in Ubisoft's FPS franchise, following 2006's Call of Juarez, 2009's Bound in Blood and 2011's Call of Juarez: The Cartel.

Featuring brutal shootouts and dynamite-powered explosions, Gunslinger returns the series to the Old West after The Cartel experimented with a modern day setting.

Checked the review and i am disappointed. Its based on the same cowboy theme but too absurd for me . I dont know if it is worth getting or not.

Scores look decent at least to me. Way better than The Cartel's reception. Shall play it later.

@Gannu: You have a 16:10 monitor right? Be prepared to say hi to those "black bars" in this game.

Oh crap! :banghead:

If it was a third person title, I would have connected my TV to the system and the black bars would have gone. But this is a pain! :(

Completed three chapters. The game justifies the title. Playing with the guns is a blast in this game! Now duels are much easier to perform. Some other minor improvements and additions have been done.
But i don't like the letterbox type frame of this game. They should have kept the screen normal like other games.
