erm Options 1 and 2, i also like Tactical Shooters like the Rainbow Six Series and the Ghost Recon Series, IMO they offer a sense of satisfaction bar none :P hehe i'm playing Rainbow Six VEGAS right now and it's extremely satisfying to utilize cover and strike. i somehow don't like CS that much but COD4 was the most professional game i've played till now. The Awesomeness is just incredible...

I like both the tactical ones and the WWII type. Bug or creature bashing just doesn't gives that satisfaction as going Tony Montana on the arse of a group of unsuspecting guards. Say hello to my little friends
  1. Deagle
  2. AK47
  3. M4 with M203UBGL
  4. H&K-MP5
  5. Barrett M107
  6. Styr ST-1
Just a few tools of the trade I like to carry although personally just have a .315 Bolt Action with Maruzin Scope and a Webley .32 :hap2:

I like pretty much anything as long as it's not repetitve, especially the level design and environments. I'm also not too found of tactical shooters. Have only been able to take a liking to BIA.

I play a lot of UT. I also like CoD 1&2 . I haven't tried CoD4 as I am not sure if it will work on my rig. As for HalfLife, I have played HL2Ep1 only. I tried playing HL1 once, but soon I got motion sickness and felt like vomiting ... and got a baad headache. Its probably the graphics+low FoV+high response to mouse movement.

I have played Serious Sam a bit .. but didn't like it. I am like halfway through Halo: Combat Evolved. Sometimes, its too tense. In case of games like UT, there is no tension. Just BAM BAM BAM!!

I was bout to blast morgo for not including DM style stuff like UT, QW, Q3A (i know i know too old but heck i still luv it) n likes.

I luv ma fps the DM way, human opponents preferred, nothin like beating the hell outta ur buddie n rulin da show.

I like all of kinds of shooters except WW ones.
Have a special liking for the Rainbow Six and SWAT tactical kind as well as the Doom and Serious Sam run-and-gun kind.

option 3 :

love rpg isstyle fps (stalker, bioshock, elder scrolls also if *shoot* magic and arrows) .... but nothing beats stroming the dust2 B side like a maniac with flash and ak in CS 1.5/1.6.

bring me more CoD4/GRAW2 action...humans on humans with modern weapons....no WWII, open arena, monster crap - tired of it

Well, the results are very surprising to me. It's kind of topsy-turvy as far as my assumptions are concerned.

sad to see that despite popularity of modern shooters, there are still not many of them around. We need more games like CoD4 :ohyeah:

I voted option 3. The most fun I've ever had in recent times was when I was playing Hl2 Episode 2. Stalker is another amazing game, but is too bleak to be enjoyable in a Half Life kinda way :)

I don't like the tactical games like COD4 or Rainbow 6 much (too much duck n' hide). Not too big a fan of run n' gun games either (although quake 4 and doom 3 are mindless fun at times).

I love unrealistic settings, where u get to use fantastic weaponry (gravity gun anyone?) and kill zombies and mutants or regular humans (but without the trappings of realism that games like COD and R6 impose).

While the poll is meant to run for seven days, I think we can disregard the remaining time and reach a conclusion.

As I wrote earlier, I am very surprised at the results. I was thinking that Barren lands, ruined industries, human & mutants enemies and tactical like HL2, STALKER, Bioshock will lead followed by Set in WWII, tactical as well as run&gun but rusty rifles and destroyed villages in second place and Gun & Run, monsters and lots of blast like Doom 3 & Painkiller in third place.

But of course we know that's not true and days of going solo on the a** of aliens and monsters seems to be over. It is safe to say that nowadays, Modern Shooter: Human enemies, modern weapons and relatively tactical like CoD4 are big hit.

I believe it is because the gaming is diversifying. A lot of new people are taking up computer gaming and for these people Modern Shooters provide better gameplay because not only they are rooted in real-life settings but are also easy to approach.

On the other hand, I think games like Doom3 and HL-2, appeal more to old timers with their fantasy stuff and a strong emphasis on everything that is old school: Dark corners, heavy and futuristic weapons, monsters on prowl and one man army battling to save humanity.

I am also surprised that Horror stuff did not get a single vote. Given the interest in Scariest Game thread, 0 votes for option five is perplexing :S

Also, I wonder why there are so many WWII markets? At least here in India not many fancy them. But may be because Europe and the US were part of the war these games have a following there. Though I can't say it for sure.

That the results of this poll were surprising is in understatement. Thanks for participating in the poll.

Happy fragging

Um, no.

You cannot come to such conclusions based on a handful of votes gathered on an online forum. :P

Besides, there's nothing similar about Doom and Half-Life. HL is, for the most part, interesting because of the physics and great level design. Doom 3 was a major breakthrough in computer graphics at that time, and its appeal lies in putting your brain aside and killing hordes of monsters.

One man army FPS games outnumber the tactical/team-based games even today. Most of the highly anticipated games releasing this quarter (Crysis, Stalker, Farcry 2, Rage) are such games.

Good poll though. :thumb:
