Guys,
I have made some significant investment in the sony system.
Sony A300
70-210mm f4 "Beercan"
50mm 1.7
135mm 2.8
18-250 mm SONY DT

couple of spare batteries etc.

Right now i am in US, but I am worried about the support in INDIA for my sony system.
I plan on returning back soon.

Do you guys have had any experience on the sony repair, after sales service or general repairs on your sony systems, especially in Mumbai.

If the only option is shipping all my gear to US to get them repaired in case something needs to.
I think i would rather get rid of this system and get a Canon or Nikon

What do you suggest guys?

PS: I am very satisfied with my system so far and apart from the service issues i don't have any other problem

getting it serviced here afaik shouldnt be a problem , since you have quite a complete collection here makes a lotta sense in gettin it here , selling that and getting a collection of similar sorts would cost more than double the selling price

so even if it goes bust of not , id suggest you get it here and use it , unless u drop teh gear or something its rare that they go bad.

^^ Yup, I believe they will service your camera. Though they might charge you for any spares.

Also you wont get any service for those Minolta lenses. Though if you treat them well, I seriously doubt you will have any problem. Lenses outlast cameras many times over.

Yeah.
Nothing is enough.
I am still craving for these.

70-200mm f2.8 TAMRON

16-80 CZ

135 f1.8 Sony STF

100mm f2.8

85 mm 1.8

I am also looking to replace the Minolta 50mm 1.8 with Sony 50mm 1.4

Hell, I could start a sony rental business in India :ohyeah:

Do you guys know of any Sony/Minolta lens rentals back in India/Mumbai?

There aren't any lens rental places in india worth its salt for canon/nikon let alone stuff like minolta.

I suggest you get all that stuff from the US before coming down here.

I took a trip to Fort to see what I could get here (Minolta lenses).

I only found the foll -

1. Minolta 28-105mm f3.5-f4.5

2. Minolta 50mm f1.7

3. Minolta 28-135mm f4-4.5 (had a stuck aperture, but the guy said he could repair it for me)

4. Tamron 28-200mm f3.5-5.6

5. Sigma 28-200mm f3.5-5.6

Thats it !!! Nothing else I found. I left my number with one shop keeper and asked him to inform me when he could get any new Minolta lens. He however only found some 28-200mm lenses from Tamron/Sigma, nothing more. :(

I will let you guys know some time before I plan to move back.
Let me know the lenses which u guys need and we could do some arrangement.

^^ You have made my wallet extremely unhappy with you. :(

Ill need a telephoto lens. Cant find one in India so will have to source it from the US.

Worst case you sony chaps can always use bhphotovideo. Contact their india liason office for details. Or even better use kmd :P.

^^ True, but I prefer to buy old Minolta glass. The 28-105mm lens for instance is close to my ideal walk around lens. It is fast - f3.5-4.5 and perfectly usable wide open (Stopping down to f5.6 and its incredibly sharp). It has no distortions that I can see and I have yet to find any CA that could spoil my snaps.

And comparing the colour and contrast to my Sony 18-70mm lens and there is a world of difference ! Minolta glass was always known for the amazing colours they produced.

The Minolta 50mm f1.7 performs similarly. So I would prefer to stick to Minolta products rather than shelling out more money on Sony lenses (unless they are CZ lenses ! ).

So even the Telephoto that ill get will be definitely a used Minolta lens. Hopefully ill get some really nice glass for about $200.

@Kippu - I spent 7k for the Minolta 28-105mm lens. (It had a crack on the thread).

All the others - 28-200mm and 28-135mm were selling for about 7k with no option for bargaining. (Believe me I tried !). The 50mm f1.7 I got for 3k.

Isn't 28-105 a bit too long? I bought the canon version with my camera and found that I was always wanted something wider. Now that lens sits on my EOS Elan2 film body where its absolutely perfect. Not finding too much time with film so I intend to get rid of both soon.

One lens that should always be in for a Sony Enthusiast user is the 18-250mm, its almost like having a 12x zoom on a DSLR.

It is my general walk around lens when i go out travelling.

I have taken some pretty good shots without flash in museums(Low-Light condition) as well using it.

I know its almost the same price of the body but then it saves you from the hassle of changing lens based on the requirement.

hey neo can you get me also maybe a 2nd hand flash unit from usa , could we arrange something ? pls pm me and let me know your messenger details also sent you several PMs , please check n reply

BF1983 checked yesterday @ fort and saw 2nd hand flashes for 7k which is absolutely ridiculous.

^^ They were also the older non TTL flashes i.e. they would fire at the maximum power regardless of the situation.

@Chaos - I sometimes miss the wideangle, but thats on very few occassions. I have been using a Fuji Camera which has a 38mm wideangle, so a 42mm wideangle aint a biggie for me. I am in anycase planning for a nice Tokina 11-18 f2.8 lens in a year.

@neo - The 18-250mm lens is quite incredible. but I would rather spend that much money on a wide angle lens since I already have a 28-105mm lens and ill be getting a 70-300mm lens type in a short while. (Hopefully from you !!!)

Do let Soulfire and me know if you still have place in your bag. We both want 1 flash and 1 lens each.
