@BF
the sony 70-300 is does not get very good reviews.
I would suggest the 70-210 f4 "Beercan"
Its minolta's most famous lens, a very good performer and surprisingly good in low light, besides the ability to use f4 throughout the zoom range, you can snap one of those around 250$ these days on ebay.

The one i have is about 20years old (I have the bill), it produces almost equal/better pictures than my 18-250 but then i miss the comfort of having a one all purpose lens as well as the beercan is bulky.

I am thinking of selling it off some time before i come back, coz i use it very less these days.

^^ Nah I wasnt looking at the Sony 75-300mm lens. Was looking at something like a used Minolta 100-300mm lens or a new Tamron 70-300mm LD Telemacro 1:2 lens which has got some good reviews.

I know the beercan is sharper but its range is not that useful for me. A 300mm lens however will net me a few bird shots. :)

Hi,

I found this post cause I was looking for service centers in Mumbai for their SLR system. Please be aware that Sony in India does not provide "Service" for the Alpha system, Only replacement within the warranty period.

You can however get your Alpha system serviced in places like fort where there are a lot of camera sellers.

Sony range and support for Alpha in India is pretty bad. I bought mine from Canada and fortunately haven't had any problems with the camera till now. Only the standard 18-70 lens has given me a problem which I am currently trying to rectify. The focus ring is getting stuck. Anyone faced this problem with their Sony lens? Can you direct me to a reputable service center?

^^ Hi, welcome to TE ! Sorry to hear about your problem. :(

I use Sony but its purchased from India and so warranty is not a problem. I unfortunately dont know any reputed repairers in Fort so I cant help you there. :(
