The Prime Minister's Office has told the Central Information Commission that it cannot declassify files related to Subhash Chandra Bose as it will adversely affect relations with foreign countries. The CIC has reserved its order in the matter.

During the hearing before the CIC on Wednesday, the PMO admitted that it has files related to Bose but did not give any specifics and submitted that they could not be declassified keeping in mind relations with foreign countries.

So what could the reasons? Put on your conspiracy theory hats and lets discuss

Ruin relations with which nation..? India has always been a minnow on the geopolitical scene. We cannot sort our internal state (and caste) issues, and blame it on relations with foreign parties. We always played second fiddle to China and now even Pakistan (by shouting out that we are sponsoring terrorism in Pakistan, and taking the Kashmir issue to the UN) is kicking us left-right-center. LOL. Our politicians are just a bunch of hobos smoking weed, walking around in their kurta pajama/dhotis and barking false promises. And doing diametrically the opposite once elected.

^^ as if Japan needs India's money.

btw, this happened several decades back, who will get offended now. And how much can they get offended ?

West Bengal government to declassify Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose's files today

West Bengal government will on Friday (today) make public 64 files relating to Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose which could throw light on the mysterious disappearance of the nationalist leader in mid-1940s.

A week ago, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee had said there has been a long- standing demand for declassification of Netaji files and 64 files on the freedom fighter lying with the state's home department would be put in public domain.

This is what politicians do. BJP was yelling when UPA could coax it out and now they are in the same shoes. Just send them out, Whats the worse that can happen.

Ever penny counts!

Rahul baba might get offended as it was his great great grandpa's hatched plan.

One thing is for sure, then Indian government has done an injustice to a great freedom fighter. The extent of injustice & the person who was responsible for that injustice in Indian government needs to be revealed.

It doesn't seem to be Nehru, had it been the case, BJP would've willingly declassified the files. Tarnishing the image of the person responsible isn't suitable for either BJP or Congress, who can that be? Or could it lead to chaos and law and order issues?

so what was the outcome of those 64 files? there is still no news about it's content
Practically useless, it hints that Bose was alive after the so called crash, not a big surprise. It also notes that the Indian govt was terrified of Netaji. Seems Neheru was too afraid to lose the crown that he conquered after so much difficulty.

Netaji would have been a good leader, he was one of the only few who fought for our independence, instead of letting the British get away with whatever they wanted.

unless centre releases the files mystery will never solve.
modi is actively meeting bose family members in Delhi, Kolkata and even in Germany which no other pm had met.
he had even formed a internal committee early this year to review the classification of files.
so it's a matter of time centre releases those files.

International relation trumps everything. As much as I want to see the files if it causes our allies to lose face in front of the world I'd rather those files never saw the light of day. We have a few allies only, I'd rather have them then some old files.

Reactions: Party Monger
This whole issue is moot and irrelevant!
There is just way too much black ops sort of stuff that every nation/government is party to. This sort of thing is almost a given.
