Can a PS2 be connected to a LCD monitor?

This thread looks like it just got run over by the n00btrain.

TV Signals and Computer signals are not compatible. They cannot be converted by cable. TV's are mostly Interlaced, while the computer uses progressive signals. TV's work at 24-30Hz, while computers only use upwards of 60Hz.

Your best bet is to get an external TV Tuner and use it. No need to leave the comp on. They barely cost 500-600 nowadays.

the converter is like a TV tuner

Hey I have 19inch LCD Monitor and I want to buy PS2.

Should I buy the converter or should I buy the TV tuner card?

Also, what else will be required to have a sound output with the converter cables.

a converter is nothing more than a tv tuner card with channel tuning and a dedicated input ports

you can buy either of them

if your monitor is like and tv-monitor combo's then it will be played by the LCD itself

if not then you can do either PS2's digital sound output or just buy another converter and convert the the outcable for audio from PS2 to a speaker post

You'll need a female RCA to 3.5mm female converter cable for it. Something like this:

The audio part (red and white) of your PS2 will plug in the RCA part of the converter and the headphones need to go into the 3.5mm jack.

thanks Ethan Hunt.

Btw anybody tried connecting PS2 to LCD Monitor? How are the graphics ? Anything about lags etc?

From what I have heard, it looks horrible (I can't confirm though). I guess the console was made for playing on a SDTV.

many people have done it as they don't like to have too many screens

if the screen has a good refresh rate and the converter doesn't create any blockage of refresh problems then it should be fine

one of the members from the forums i am on had done this with an LG LCD monitor
