Hi everybody

Thinking of buying XFX GTX 260 Black edition which is on sale at TE only. Problem is this i have Cooler master RS-460-PCAR-A3 PSU-

Cooler Master - Ultimate provider of Computer Chassis | Cooler | Power Supply

Can it handle this card??

I checked with extreme power supply calculator, total power consumption its showing -305W-350W.

Pc hardware is-

Amd Phenom IIX3 720

4 GB ram 2x2

DVD drive

2 Hard drive

3 80mm fan

I wont be doing any overclocking of anything .

So what do you think? Please give your suggestions.

Thanks

Re: Can this PSU handle this?

I don't this so buddy. That one is a Extreme Series right? It's got a very unreliable reputation.

You better get a Corsair VX450.

Re: Can this PSU handle this?

It can handle the card but there is huge risk involved

Its a gamble you'll have to take that if anything happensto your psu and your card , your card won't be covered in RMA

Please change your PSU before buying anything.

Re: Can this PSU handle this?

ur system power consuption on full load will be about 340 watts

dont get vx450 it is expensive for what it provides....!!!! look for other brand and iff u really want to get urself a new supply dont get anything less than 500 watt......other wise ur present supply can also do the job but there is risk involved using this supply...!!!!! better upgrade the supply too

Given your conclusion that hte VX450 is useless, how about providing us with an alternative?

Tagan TG600 U37 for the same price as VX450 is a much better buy.

Sorry for the troll but lol

Stick to corsair vx450. If people are saying without any reasoning at a tagan 600 u37 is better/in par with vx450, its pretty obvious that they are simply increasing their post counts for obvious reasons.

ya stick with that only....like the others are already stuck at vx450....

wow.. you really seem to be full of yourself.

Wanna substantiate as to why the Tagan is better than the Corsair?

@OP Please stick to the VX450

Re: Can this PSU handle this?

OP don't listen to these crap like Tagan when compared to VX 450

Corsair VX 450 is better choice

Re: Can this PSU handle this?

Max card that this PSU can handle is 4770/4850 with average other hardware , anything above it is risky . If you are planning gtx 260 then you should atleast get a tagan 500w or vx 450 .

Gtx 260 will require two pci-e inputs so it is good to get a psu with 2 pcie connecters rather then using an converter .

And BTW tagan is not at all crap , i have installed it on a friends pc and it works flawlessly but vx450 is better but we must respect what the manafacturer has written ie 450w and single pcie connecter , which really indicates that the psu is intended to be used with a card requiring the same .

You got me wrong there.

I meant Tagan looks like crap when compared to VX 450

..And people like you who join the forums one fine day should be wise and accumulate knowledge before spreading any misconception. All newbies, especially who migrated from think digit forums seem to carry a common arrogance that "others are wrong and we are right because 600w is 600w and 450w is 450w!!". Not that we don't like you guys (although you guys are pretty much reponsible damaging the forums and trying to make it into another dump), but you guys just don't want to learn things properly and convert everything into a damn school debate. I've been there and done that.

Read the following link: http://www.techenclave.com/pc-peripherals/corsair-vx-450w-vs-coolermaster-extreme-128757.html

Despite the fact that comparison cm 600w, the information given about vx450 is far more than enough even for a newbie to understand. What part of "corsair rates their psu very conservatively" you guys fail to comprehend? I might have sounded rude but think. This is a tech forum- a real one.

omg, another thread on the cm ep plus 500w and again being confused for being the one given in the above link (or of the same build/series) ...Pls. see that there is a difference between cm psu's with a plus with them and those without.

@ OP, if you get the answer to your query, do tell me because I have too been wanting to know it, but due to people's immediate impulse against any cm psu and knowing that there is an extreme series with a plus too, i failed to get a correct response to my previous queries relating to the question you have put up.

Sorry, just saw that ypu have the 460W version compared to my 500W, dont think a gtx260 could work..maybe a gtx 250 could work for you.

Dude whose the newbee here , post more then 1k does not mean you have enough knowledge . First if you know how to read then read what i have written . Never compared vx450 to cm600 and dont know what your upto . Only said vx450 has single pcie slot . I also did not at all recommend op's current psu for him . I dont know why you are showing that same link again and again . And secondly you here sound like a fanboy to me !! I have completed BE in computer engineering from mumbai university and done hardware and networking and currently in larson and turbo from last 6 months to have enough knowledge . Learn to read posts clearly and if you cant then dont post at all . I read so many of your recent posts of yours and they seem to be nowhere regarding to op's help , only bash up others to glorify your knowledge .

And finally i never differentiate between any forums , it is people like you who make some forum disgracefull by not respecting others . Getalife !!

Uh oh you shouldn't have said this

Being a BE in computer engineering from Mumbai Unversity and working in Larson and Turbo for 6 months doesn't mean that you know more

Do you wan't to show to everone your degree or your 6 months work experience that you are above all here?

Never boast yourself bro.
