Can I get a custom/VIP cell phone number in India?

It feels like an eternity but I'm finally back in India after a huge gap of 5-6 months. Anyhow, I'm going to be heading a project in Delhi for the next 2 quarters and thus need to get all my stuff in order. Things on my shopping list include getting a new cell phone #, a car, an apartment and what not!

Anyhow, I was wondering if I could get a number from the original series of numbers for Delhi, you know the ones that begin with 9810x-xxxxx. Out in the US (and even the UK for that matter), it isn't very difficult to get a custom/VIP number that's quite easy to remember. Most of the numbers available at the Airtel/Vodafone customer centers were quite horrible.

Does anyone know any agents/contacts/dalals who could hook me up with an unused number from the original series?

All companies offer special numbers/ vip numbers in India also...

call them and ask

they charge starting from 3k to anywhere to 15k
 
the easy to remember number are sold through the bidding process.Its called Vanity numbers. contact the service provider from whom you want the number(airtel,vodafone etc). you just have to go their store and ask!

process is like this, you select your Favorite number and quote premuim you can pay. if no other person is paying price higher than you, then you would alloted that number.

befriend a dealer... wont get you class 1 VIP number but easy to remember one's can be had for no premium..
 
I have a number ending with four zeros. Luckily my brother got it for free.. ;)

When had a talk with Vodafone guy, he said if asked for similar no. it will cost approx 10k
