Hello people,

Our School has entered a debate competition and the topic is this...

“In this era of Globalization, the IPL could be moved anywhereâ€

If you all could just give your views on the topic, it would be really helpful! And, if you could lean more on logic and precision of the arguments, not on grammar, style, syntax or just mere facts and figures, then it would be doubly appreciated.

Thanks!

Yes!

When you start with word like globalisation, then thats the answer you get.

More interesting would be to know why NOT :)

well.. u wanna see regular EPL matches like ManU vs Arsenal at Dongdaemun Stadium ,Seoul . :P . If yes...I vote for IPL to be moved.

Sometimes , the audience do make a huge difference.

because English Premier League is played in U.K and Spanish League is played in Spain etc etc...

Having a league called Indian Premier League organized and played outside the country just doesn't make sense to me .

There are players from all over the world, it's played on foreign Land ..

so what's Indian in it ? Only a few sponsors like DFL and BCCI managing it ?

Globalization is not a reason to move it to some other country .

Why are other Football/sports league not played in India or some other country ?

The whole pride of organizing a even of such big magnitude is lost when I think of IPL outside India. Maybe then it should be called World/Global Premier League :P.

PS :all of the above is just my opinion on the topic .

I would say NO.

First we have to establish the teams and create a fan following in all cricket playing nations and then only we can think of moving it to other countries. We are in a very immature position and since its born in India, i feel it should'nt be shifted to any other country in near future.

Instead of shifting the IPL elsewhere they should hold the ICC T20 World Cup in different countries (maybe even non-cricketing countries to get the moolah!) Since its a world cup and features all the top players, it is bound to get the sponsorship money and the TV rights. However, the IPL may not get the same response because of the word 'Indian' meaning it is a local competition (which it is) so holding it in any other country reduces the value of the IPL.

Besides the World Cup, another tournament, for instance the Champions League T20, can be played globally. For it is the CL T20 tournament which includes the best T20 teams in the world and what better way to showcase cricket to the world than through the CL T20 or even the World Cup T20.

All IPL teams must know that before venturing out, they need to strengthen their base in India itself. Teams need to create a huge fan following, have a steady stream of revenues and must be profitable before the league itself can be played in another country. But all said and done, IPL is a domestic tournament and as such shouldn't be moved to any other country.

On a side note, IPL is already one of the top 5 sports properties in the world. And if you check, the top four are all 'domestic leagues'. Source: Behind NFL, MLB & NBA there is IPL - Yahoo! India News

keep it India.

South Africans said after IPL-2, "Thanks to the IPL for reviving South Africa's economy!"

Get it back here so that we can show the world that all the money is here! :)
