I have a Sony KLV-46Z550A TV. I need to know if there is any possibility of updating the firmware of the TV ? If yes then where can i find the firmware file ??
My TV does have a USB port.

I read somewhere that we can update firmware of a TV (if provision to do so exists)

Yes it can be done all firmwares are stored on an eeprom chip so they can be erased and rewritten. But depends for what do you want to update the firmware. Google it :*

Any links to find Sony TV firmwares ?? I am trying to find but no success yet :(

Depends on whether Sony supplies firmware on regular basis. I don't see any on their india site.

I updated the firmware for my Philips 42PFL9703 through USB without a hitch. I can even make custom firmware for it as I have the code and the TV runs on Linux

LG LCDs have a special port that allows upgrade for firmware. (Serial port). AFAIK the USB port will not have a connection to the EEPROM hence that will not let you flash.

The second thing is getting the files, the LG guys don't give it out, tried already.

Sony india website doesn't have that facility. So unless their is a serious issue they won't release a update.I remember seeing a update for some 300a or 400a models in 07 /08 .

Newer ex & nx range can be updated.

You can get custom firmwares they are modded firmware and could void your warranty . I once flashed my old sony dvd rw with custom firmware which let my writer to work which until was not readin nor writing dvd or cd. I got it from liggydee.cdfreaks.com

Please please desist yourself from updating the firmware on your own,if your TV is under warranty.

If it is out of warranty have a look at your local service centre and how responsive they are.If they take anything more than 45 days to repair TV then i think its a huge gamble updating firmware on your own.I wouldnt touch 3 rd party firmware with a 12foot pole.

Still if you are super rich and can afford TV in dozens please party around firmwares :)

It seems only Samsung gives regular FW updates........ :D

I own a Samsung LED TV UA40B7000........ hav updated FW 3 times in 1 yr.

Update process is very simple as well....... just plug ur pendrive with the updated FW into USB ports on the TV...... press couple of buttons and ur done in 1min....... also u can revert back to old FW if u want.... cool features..

Dropped the idea of firmware upgrade and as it is seems none is available for my TV. Moreover no question of warranty as TV was bought in grey..no bill no warranty :P

^Yeah you are better off not doing it in your case since you got the TV off a grey market. :)

Ask the customer care with valid reasons and their tech engineer might get in touch with you with firmware and the process.
