Another vote 4 da Alto... if you wanna buy a first hand first car then Alto can be your choice. Its cheap to buy and since its Maruti cheap to maintain too. I wanted my first car to be an Alto but since 4-5 ppl have it in my society pops is pushing me towards a i10 !!
 
i10 is a good car but at a budget of 3 lakhs it should be ignored

and coming to the Chevy spark many great features xcellent warranty and customer support , satisfaction guranteed and looks damn good (not to me :D )

but i suggest u to go for the maruti alto u will get a fully loaded car at that price

so ill suggest go for maruthi alto

and those daysa are gone when u saw if reliability go for maruti , blah, blah

every indian automobile company now is trying there best to come up to give best quality and support ..
 
Go for a Alto - and use the saved 1 Lakh for free fuel for 2 years (@60KM/day, Rs. 50/Ltr) if your running is less say 20KM/day you can even have free fuel for almost 5-6 years. This is all assuming your budget is 4 Lacs.

Still Maruti has the cheapest spare parts compared to Hyundai and Chevvy

Better go for Astar as Alto is a small car and Astar has more space and is sturdy.
 
i've seen these small cars have very low tops. i bumped my head getting into one of these and it beats me how ppl cope with it. :S

Rear seat leg space is awfully cramped in Astar. Otherwise it is good car. Newer than Alto too. But both has 800C.C engine (that's the reason for fuel efficiency).

AC in Alto is good enough. The problem is elsewhere when AC is turned on the engine feels underpowered. But that's with all 800CC cars. But for city run Alto or Astar quite adequate. The sweetest deal in these cars is their fuel efficiency and cheap maintenance and reliability.

Astar is 998cc and has better Power and Torque, whereas Alto is 796cc

Beat is a good car, but its 10 year running cost must be atleast 10 times that of maruti a-star or alto! So, stick to maruti suzuki.

My vote: Maruti Alto: The Best Basic Car.
