I bought this from the US about a year ago coz i needed to be on the road for a couple of weeks. This has only US maps. The unit locks on to satellites in India within 10-15 secs and is in perfect working condition. I have not used this for more than 2 weeks total.

You can buy Garmin maps in India. it will work with other free maps as well. Anyway there's a ton of info available on how to make GPS units bought from abroad work in India with various maps.
