Storage Solutions CD writer not working

hi folks,

I've been having a small problem with my CD-RW. Firstly, it is generally not detected. When i took out the cable and jacked it back in, it was detected but not working. when i went to the device manager and tried to see whats wrong in its 'properties' it gave me a "code 10: device could not start error". now, i checked it in my BIOS, and when its detected there, instead of getting the normal name of the device hardware, i get some random alphanumeric text. its somewhat like a modified form of the usual name..."sa#3$mNg CS R! 25^b" or something of this sort. i tried exchanging the IDE cable with the other drive but then it gave problems while booting, giving an error saying the primary slave IDE incompatible. to make sure the problem was not with the cable, i exchanged the HDD cable with the CD cable. the HDDs were working just fine.

now i seem to have no idea whats wrong, and frankly, it just stopped working all of a sudden. had there been something wrong with my slot, the other drive wouldnt have worked either.

maybe there is a loose conn at the IDE slot on the drive...

Try cleaning the contacts at the back of ur cd-drive(just blow some air)... u might want to take to service centre if its under warranty.....

Also ensure that jumper is in right position.
you can also try booting with cd drive put on cable select configuration (might help might not )...
