Items not in the list include monitor at 16.5k and UPS at 4.9k

the only items (from the list) that've survived my onslaught are the monitor and the FDD

Looking at the bill i was wondering if ne one wud even pay 3000 Rs for 30K hardware :)

Things were so costly earlier.

I too had paid some 75K for my HP 8505 which had P3 450 , 64/128MB SD RAM , Nvida Riva TNT 8MB , 10GB Quantum HDD.

I still have system working fine.

haha very interesting thread. What got me thinking is... 6 years ago... you bought a 40BG hdd for 6.7k. Today you get 400GB for approx that much. So in another 6 years, we should have 4 TB HDD for around 6.7k :p

Lol i spent a lack and 20k on my first system...32mb of uber duber phast ramzors, 500mb of uber big harddrivezorz, 14's of uber large screen displayzors WITH uber duper built in speakerzos!!111oneshift1onehundrenandeleven

hardware development kinda follows the exponential curve. so we shud be seeing 4TB drives at 6k in 2-3 years or less (atleast i hope so.. hehe)

Dude.. Seriously .. u shd consider asking AMD ppl for some royalties for being sch a hardcore AMD patron .. :eek:hyeah:

You know AMD Athlon K7 900Mhz at that time was also better than P3 coppermine and was better VFM. Even i had amd in 2001. I had 3 pentium systems. P3 450, P4 2.6c and this c2d.

And in the same years i have had AMD 750 >900 >1Ghz > Tb 1800+> tb 2400+> winnie 3200+> veni 3000+ > 3700+> x2 3800+> opty 165 and now X2 3600+

Amd always had good processors and specially VFM products. Exception was the short period where P4c northwood really outgunned Athlon XP for a short period.

Not much actually.. My criteria was - 1GHz (the 4-digit magic number) Processor, 17" CRT, RivaTNT2 Graphics Card, 40GB HDD, 128MB RAM

Landed in Bangalore on saturday (that day) at 1pm. Did the 'market survey' till 3pm. Got prices from 4-5 places. Was sooo keen on the just launched P4 1.2GHz. Intel had some promo offer in association with Samsung. Processor, Mobo, RAM (RDRAM) and cabinet from Intel and the rest of the items from Samsung. If not for my good friend's advice, I would have got that at 72k :p

Difference between AMD 900MHz n 1GHz (ah, the magic number) was 4k. So, my friend made a sensible decision for me and I settled for 900MHz .. hehe..

By 4pm the order was placed, picked up the system by 6:30pm :D

The total figure came to Rs.60,500/- and the dealer was kind enough to gimme a discount of 5k :eek:hyeah:

i wonder what his margin might been back then..
