Whats the procedure for changing a BSNL DataOne plan? Say, I have Home250 and wanna convert to Home500...how do I go about it? How much time will it take? Will it be effective immediately from the time its changed or from next month/biling cycle?

Thanx in advance. :)

as no one has replied, i will tell about airtel's procedure :(

get a mail ready, give your account details, no etc, say you want to upgrade to from 250 to 500.

about time taken, it was about 4 days.
usually it would start from 1st of next month.
so this is apt time for you to start the procedure.

p.s - keep checking with the call center guys :) remember they always want in writing. hope you dont to have to fill a form or something, with bsnl this is a possiblity :(

You should go to your local exchange and fill out a plan change form/application and do this in duplicate and keep one copy with you duly signed and stamped by them and deposit other... The plan change should be applicable with in a couple of days...

thanx Switch and dipdude :)

i haven't yet got the dataone plan...quite confused here.

yesterday, received an email frm BSNL that they're offering me

FREE broadband...tats Home250 plan with 400MB limit for two months.

If I take it, i'll surely need to convert to Home500 but accepting

this offer will mean that i can avoid all registration/connection/installation

charges. ;)

Currently i'm using 64kbps unlimited plan and paying arnd 650/- per month. with BSNL Home500, i'll pay abt the same with modem rental and taxes. the only prob with BSNL is limited transfer. Will it be wise to get dataone now?

why dont you go for airtel then, 128 kbps unlimited for 699 rs p/m.

i just hate broadband connxns being capped :( i think home 500 has 2gb limit or something.
ultimately, if you dont d/l much and just browse, then maybe you can live with that.

my advise, get any unlimited connxn :)

Don have Airtel in my area....

only options are Reliance, Tata, BSNL and Cable Net (which I have currently)

n yep..the Home500 plan frm DataOne comes with 1GB cap. :P

man no airtel that's bad :(

but, if that 2am-8am unlimited option is true & does not count to your 1gb limit, then you can consider it, but for 18hrs you are restricted to browsing.
also, home 500 is a 256 kbps connxn which is reasonable.
if you go for this, then get those scheduling tools ready :)

finally, do check out unlimited options from other providers too.

I have Dataone home 500plan... great speeds.. I get approx 35-37Kbs on HTML downloads... and 40-50 in limewire..

the unlimited (2AM to 8AM) is pretty decent for 500rs...

I use scheduling tools and get about 700-750MB per night..

So.. My suggestion will be to get dataone..

1GB limit... after that 1.40Rs per MB and 2AM to 8AM unlimited..

500Rs a month.

I've got Tata's 64 kbps unlimited (but i get 88 kbps) but it comes at a price of Rs.800+taxes.

But Tata has got a cool option where you can change your plan on their website itself! Check out www.tataindicombroadband.com

But since its expensive, i dont recommend you get Tata.

I have been using Dataone for few months speed is good but service is pathetic. Also when it rains then u can forget the connection as it keeps disconnectiong.

I will be shifting to airtel in jan.

^^^^I dont have such problems . I am using RASPPPoe dialer . i am quite close to the exchange (abt 10min walk from here) . yet to face the troubles of overcharged bills or pathetic personell interaction

@broar94 complain whome?? I tried to take this matter to the highest official and he said that they didnt do anthing like that. I tried to give written complaints but they wont give me a recipt so I cannot take any action. now they do switch on the servers now and then and its usually too crowded as their network has become congested offlate and my connection dosent hold more than 40 min and it disconnects and i have to reboot the modem to connect again as it does not connect after it disconnects. all i can say is if the service in ur area is good then u are lucky else it no better than sify.....bsnl sucks

my connection dosent hold more than 40 min and it disconnects
archish, using a ordinary phone, check the telepone line, if it has too much of line noise, then that can cause the symptoms you are talking about :(

Dont forget the over heads of BSNL dude
Will have to watch ur download during the capped time
Plus u will need ur already existing BSNL connection
That means u will be paying minimum monthly rent on ur telephone as well as ur broad band charges....
I have data one connection is execellent download on bittorrent is about 30 kb and is much more on ares... dont remember thou....
All the best...
