Nah, I remember DD Sports lifting tons of Fruity Loops tracks back in the day. Pretty sure they paid zilch.

^ I never watched it

These copied stuff should be outrightly banned, or somebody like Anonymous hacker's group should tell such producers that ur content will be pirated openly and u shdnt protest.. Else ur genuine products will be done in as well.

Dunno when this 'inspiration' / remakes will cease. Been with our industry since ages.

This is not true. Trust me, every piece of music used in Television (exempting news channels) has been legally paid for. There are agencies that monitor every TV programme, and any track used without permission/rights will land the channel in big legal trouble. This has happened on shows I've worked on. We had to pay the copyright holder immediately.

thanks for the info .. i didnt knew it before.

but what if some one uses it w/o buying the rights ?

So you mean to say that everything is legal; even if t is copied from outside of India. I very much doubt it.

Some months back there was one serial promo coming up and it looked straight rip from Twilight series. Now I do not think they have paid any thing there. What you said might be true with Indian copyright holder; but for foreign things I believe they simply get it and play as no one from there is really monitoring it.

^ I was referring only to using music tracks. And I'm talking about national tv channels. Regional channels use stuff without rights all the time.

This doesn't apply to ideas or copying songs. Else someone like Anu Malik would have a 100 lawsuits against him. Same thing with the twilight ripoff.

You get a legal notice from the copyright holder. They ask you to pay up and if you refuse, they take you to court. As far as I know channels always pay the fee.
