BTW I had asked Delta in Chennai to check on the Giga Superb 460W. He said its not in the official Gigabyte India catalogue or something and is probably a direct import. AFAIK this PSU seems to be available only in Bangalore.

thanks eddy. I'm waiting for the dust to settle in my clouded mind before i choose which low powered route to go- carputer or fileserver :(

No wonder these lamington road dealers were so zonked when i asked them about a gigabyte powersupply .

Umm sorry for bumping the old thread but does anyone know how good the pov black diamond 400 watts is against the gigabyte superb 460 watts ? I read somewhere that the pov black diamond series are seasonic oems, but i need confirmation, coz the gigabyte superb aint available here. Any help would be great :).

Didn't want to start a new thread..
I am going for a low-budget cool n quiet cpu

ASUS m2a-mx (post probably)
AMD athlon 64 le-1600 (if I can find it in delhi)- 45w runs even without a fan, idles at 10C
1 ram stick
80 gb sata laptop HDD(quiet and efficient)

Now with such a config it wld be a disaster to go for a noisy PSU.
I won't be using pci/gfx cards, just one very efficient cpu with 1 ram stick and the mobo. So wattage ain't a issue..
plz plz suggest a quiet PSU. I don't care abt quality/reliability one byte. Am willing to mod. Just the psu has to be very very VERY silent.
budget for psu - 1k , extendable to 1.5

I suppose a VIP one should be fine - seems they have some sort of active fan control as posted previously in these threads :)

Oye greenie, if you get one, open er up and post the internals. Might get one too :D

Greenie, don't count on that PSU to power too many devices though

I have load tested it with the Via CPU/Mobo, 5.25" ODD, 2.5" HDD and a couple of USB devices....

It did not drop voltage till this point , but I am not sure if that tiiny thing can take any more... :bleh:

should run perfectly stable for your intended usage though (I assume a 3.5" HDD, CPU, Mobo and a couple of USB devices)

mesa planning to run a 3.5" HDD, DVD writer , a 5W Incandescent lamp off 12V, and the board + proccy itself. will it need a fan if not adequately ventilated :ashamed:

ewwww

I guess that will start overheating the MOSFETS

BTW why a DVD writer and an incand. lamp on a headless hidden setup? why not just stash it away in a shoebox somewhere out of sight..with a low load, it would hardly need any ventilation so no fan headaches....

Ideally a download/NAS rig ( I am assuming you are not going to use it for browing or regular desktop usage etc) would sit in a corner just hooked to a router/switch simply serving files to other desktops/laptops on the network as a network drive

In addition, it would provide you a Remote desktop (or a browser based intereface prefereably) to allow http/ftp/torrent downloads

And perhaps, In addition , a perfectly clean metastripping proxy server ;)

meh, will put in a wallwart for the lamp then. Like i said , this is going to be camouflaged as something else ;) thats why i need the lamp for.

I can run a DVDRW right ? So that i can write stuff straight off the NAS rather than transfering it over LAN and writing
