China’s latest boast is a 30 floor hotel built in only 15 days and supposedly able to withstand “magnitude 9″ earthquakes.

The builders boast that they erected the 30-storey, 183,000 square foot hotel on a pristine Hunan province site in only 15 days, using prefabricated parts.

Unbeliable. Even if they used prefabricated parts its not possible to build so fast.

^^ 2.6 billion "hands" can build it I am sure, in less than 15 days.

Pun intended.

The 15 days period shows just the assembling part and not the construction part .They have done at least 1 to 1.5 years of ground work which includes pre fabricated part of work.

My factory was built in 48 hours flat , that doesn't mean they constructed in 48 hours

^^ With China you never know, if they could bring up a fully functional 3,500 bed hospital, fully staffed with military doctors and with all the associated hardware for treating SARS during the SARS-crisis [c. June 2003] under a month.

You seriously can't say anything about the speed at which their bureaucracy and labor unions can mobilize if prodded at the right moments for the right needs [say world records and attention grabbing publicity stunts, catastrophic disasters et al].

Longetivity might be an issue since it Was built using prefabricated components. But maybe they do not want it to last long.

Lets see-

The foundation is made of prefabricated concrete pillars.

The building's slabs are made of prefabricated and assembled units just screwed together. Since its screwed/bolted together, hence it is earth quake resistant to a very high degree. Its not concrete.

Since it is not concrete, it leave scope for a lot of other things mentioned there like air filtering etc.

All they had to do was just put it all together.

If the building has proper plumbing/electricity/furnishingsetc then the 15 days period is seriously impressive even if that made it from prefabricated parts.

If you look at the video, electric and plumbing were already built into the pre-fab panel at the factory itself. But even assembling the pre-fabs at this speed is phenomenal. Most of the flyovers built in Delhi are made of pre-fab concrete blocks but they still took more than a year to erect them.
