China Pirates

If you think Malaysia’s state of piracy is bad, you ain’t seen nothing yet. China is where Uncle Ho got his MBA in Piracy. They can pirate anything and nothing’s stopped them for doing it. Proton ripping off Alfa’s grill for the Perdana V6 and Alfa’s sport rims design for the Proton Gen2 is nothing compared to what Chinese car manufacturers are capable of.

This car by Shuanghuan Motors. It’s a complete blatant rip-off of the Honda CR-V although only in exterior design. The interior is damn chapalang the last time I saw it. Couldn’t find photos of it for this post. The engine’s using a very old Toyota engine, probably old stocks. Shuanghuan also ripped off Audi’s 4 rings to use as it’s logo. It’s using 2 rings instead.

Lol.

That cant exactly be called Piracy can it?

Copy of the Care, if not Identical, neither name Identical, neither any specs.. How can it be called a Fake? Lol.

goldie, its a car, to attach the word piracy what do you want them to do, steal the original engine+parts+body etc and rebadge it, for that, they might as well sell the original.

In the automotive world, copying the design of the car is unethical and labelled rip off/piracy :D.

Are you saying me they could build a car but could not come up with a design so made a complete rip off, could not even change a crease or panel. this is most shameful and shocking piracy on display :p

LOL, that's nothing.

Chinese have pirated Bajaj Pulsar and are selling it under the name of "Gulsar" in Latin America :eek:hyeah:.

What’s in a name when Gulsar and Pulsar are same!

NEW DELHI: The Chinese motorcycle industry is back to trouble Bajaj Auto. Only this time round, it’s not a cheaper two-wheeler from Beijing’s production lines that’s riding into Hamara Bajaj’s home turf, but a carbon copy of its top-seller Pulsar, which is now being marketed in Latin America under the brand name Gulsar.

"The bike has been copied from Bajaj Pulsar and even the brand name is very similar to ours. It’s a violation of intellectual property rights (IPR) and we have taken up the matter with the industry body, Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM)," a company source told The Times of India.

SIAM has already taken up the matter with commerce ministry. "We have made a detailed presentation to commerce ministry and pointed out that Gulsar violates IPR norms. We have asked the government to take up the matter with China and even WTO, if necessary," a SIAM official said.

Commerce ministry, sources said, has said that though individual cases may not be taken up, India is pursuing issues concerning IPR violations in its bilaterals with various nations.Latin America is one of the biggest overseas markets for Bajaj Auto and the firm is also in the process of setting up an assembly operation in Brazil.

"The fact that a lookalike of its bike — with an identical brand name — is already being sold in the region might hurt its prospects. But, the matter assumes greater significance in view of the rapid strides that the Indian automobile industry is making in global markets," said an industry official.

Though several global auto biggies — led by GM, Honda and Yamaha — have faced similar issues in the past, this is the first instance of an Indian bike being copied by a Chinese manufacturer.GM had recently settled a dispute with China’s Chery Automobiles, which had allegedly copied the design of GM-Daewoo’s Matiz and was selling it in the US under the brand ‘QQ’.(By arrangement with ToI)
