The US government has still not come out publicly with how bad it is currently (there were some reports that US Presidential nominees and their team members had been listened to, using this hack)

You do realise that there are multiple sanctions and trade restrictions imposed on China and Chinese companies right? In this era of globalisation, that's the most you can do.

Also, I think the NSA was using the same backdoors to spy on their citizens so that could be a reason to remain tight lipped on this.

Privacy and security is a joke right now. Edward Snowden warned the world about this more than a decade ago back in 2013.

Then we saw the Cambridge Analytica scandal and the Russian interference in 2016 US elections. In the past few years, we have seen malicious actors using fake news and propaganda to influence just about everything you see.

Still people chose money and comfort over their own personal lives and others. It's sad but what can you do. If the majority don't give a shit, it becomes the new norm.
