Hi!

I know this topic has been beaten to death in the past few days/weeks and i guess most ppl. wud by now know that the price perf. ratio of AMD X2s (3600+/3800+) are unmatchable even after the latest price cuts by intel....anyways the reason why there exists a doubt about choosing AMD X2 3600+ over E4300 are the following performance requirements which are basically what i expect out of the system.

1) how good is AMD X2 3600+/3800+/4200+ in terms of video encoding/real time video recoding(DivX) tasks etc. I mostly wud use for recoding input from STB via Compro TV tuner and Conversion from DVDs. Can it easily do recording @720x570 25-30fps?( Divx)) ?

2) OCed 3600+/3800+ on Jetway(or Equivalent budget Board) (@2.4Ghz possible on the same?) any match for a similar Oced (@2.4Ghz e4300) ? expected perf difference?

3) whether Ocing the proccys to >=2.4GHz would require a cooler like Ultra 120 in a 15x7/24x7 environment?

On a side note I'd like to know whether there are any budget boards for C2Ds( esp. E4300) with decent OCing capabilities?...Is sourcing MB like Gigabyte 965G/P DS3 or the new eVGA/Foxconn 650i ultra chipset based board from abroad any good/recommended? these boards are available for 4-5.5k in US.

PS: Gaming is not really a concern for me.....just want to game @low/decent levels..have a 7300GT PCiEx card for the same.

your valuable feedbacks/suuggestions wud be appreciated.

It all depends on your budget. C2D is definately better if you can afford it. But the x2 is no slouch either. My 3600 @ 2.47 takes 3 hrs to transcode a dvd to h.264 Stock heatsink and stock cooler.

max budget for cpu+mobo wud be say 11-12k...for that budget i can even have the 3600+jetway combo+2Gig RAM...so tough choice to make....i want sm feedback abt live encoding of input from tv setop box...i.e. how does the sys behave when runing apps like ffox n office 2k7 with live encoding under high quality encoding mode...will performance be any/drasticaly different for E4300 and 3600+...?

Well, the 2mb Cache on the E4300 will help you a lot..

It takes me about 3 mins to encode 5 mins of Video, at 1280x720, in Vegas, to xVid, set to a quantizer rate set to 1.

i just got the e4300 (5.6k) + asus p5n-e sli (8.1k) today

since u mention your budget is 11-12k, i would suggest u to get a c2d e4300 over the x2 3600. mobo u can try n find the msi p965 neo which is around 6k or so which makes it perfect for your budget. otherwise if u can extend your budget u can get the same combo i got.

also for running @ around 2.4ghz u can run it with the stock hoatsink of intel & shouldnt face any problems.

I think your choice will be simple once you understand that the video encoding speed of a computer is most importantly dependent on the processor with all the other factors remaining constant.

I will say get this config:

AMD X2 4800+ (2.5GHz, 512MBx2 L2 Cache) -> Rs. 6500/-

Jetway M2A692-GDG Motherboard -> Rs. 3600/-

and then Overclock this Processor to about 3GHz.

Reason: You won't get a good Overclocking Board for Intel Processors below 8k.

E4300 price is tempting...but mobo is a prob...since availability of a cheap ocing mobo is a prob i might as well think about sourcing the evga or the gigabyte one from abroad....any thougts on sourcing the mobo (and even procy) from abroad...decent OCing proccy+mobo wud cost me less than 10k i guess...

arnov, Why the hell should be spend 6500 on a 90nm proccessor, when get can easily reach 3 Ghz with the 3600+ (65nm) at Lower temp's. Lol.

I suggest you get the E4300 w/ a P5N-E SLi. Should cost your 6k + 7k.

You can easily get the E4300 upto around 2.6-2.8 Ghz, using the Stock cooler.

6k+7k = 13k (Which exceeds his budget limit), I had suggested the config only after looking after his budget.

@adi: 6K+7K = 13K :rofl:. Jokes apart, if u can afford it, get the P5N-E SLI+E4300 else Biostar/Jetway+X2 3600+ is a decent deal.

The X2 4800+ (90nm) runs at 2.4Ghz

The X2 4800+ (65nm) runs at 2.5Ghz

BTW @ netbakwas, the MSI P965 Neo is a cheap/decent OC'ing board. Unless you need extreme overclocks it should do fairly well. As also the P5N-E SLI everyone has mentioned above.

Also note, the P965 Neo would need a dedicated gfx card while the Jetway has onboard gfx.

Buddy the model of X2 4800+ he suggested is a 65nm Brisbane ..The 90nm X2 4800+ sports a clock speed of 2.4ghz while the brisbane 1 sport .1ghz maximum plus lower of 1 MB of cache ...

Check this out : AMD Processor Pricing

Sorry, me sleepy =X... didnt add it up properly.. lol..

Oh alright, didnt know there was a 65nm 4800+ too.. Damn, AMd needs to phase our 90nm :|...

MSI p965 Neo2 seems to be quite a decent choice....but the lack of onboard graphics is an issue that may haunt me later if due to some reason my 7300GT gets screwed...btw since i can wait for abt a week or two and given the fact that i have very limited choices of MBs for the budget i have, what about getting Newegg.com - EVGA 122-CK-NF66-T1 LGA 775 NVIDIA nForce 650i Ultra ATX Intel Motherboard - Retail or even http://www.mwave.com/mwave/Skusearch.hmx?scriteria=BA22907 through a frnd coming in from US in about a week's time?

thanks fellas for ur inputs...let me see if i can get the evga one...if i do manage that 'd be nice...else i hv to get neo 2 or have to settle for amd x2 + jetway board...

well you will get CPU+mobo with onboard video+ram in price of e4300+mobo.

So its upto u to decide. in the end.

i m on same boat..but ill go for 3600+...if the comparision was btw 4800+ and 4300 than it would had been quite interesting stuff.....but i dont have that big budget

but i guess within next 6 months a further fall in amd processor price will occur and at that time ill directly go with 5200+ or mayb 6000+.......
