CPU/Mobo Choose between AMD64 3000+ Asus A8NE & P4 2.8+Asus P5GD1-VM

hi guyz

for 3 days i had been waiting for my vendor to arrange for a venice chip if possible & finally without availability i settled to get a winchester.

but look what i got -- i just installedmy system, did all other software installation & then just thought of running the AMD & CPU-Z tolls to see my spec-- u wont believe - my EYES wide SHUT -- i saw processor Core VENICE...

sometimes life is a big surprise for u & this is a perfect example. I never ever expected this & i finalised for winchester after speaking to AMD office tech people in delhi who simply said it isnt available.

but at last -- may be by chance -- but i got a better thing i was looking for

well cant get u what u mean by that. I did not knew at all & did not check to see if it was a venice or not. Its after i setup my system & just ran CPU-Z to see the specs where to my utter surprise i saw venice written in the Processor core feild.

Well i guess i did not pay anything extra at all.
I payed 16,500 for the processor + A8N-E combo.

for people who r looking for venice chips,- feel needful to tell that on the Proc. Box there is a stamp pf NEOTERIC systems & month of import is May2005. so i fu can grab some of that lotttt, ur at more chance to fall with venice. but still u gotta make sure urself as even AMD people dont know if venice chips are available here on, leave apart the much educated dealers & distributors

Hehe, amazing! :D
Well it was only bound to happen as the Winchesters were meant to be phased out in favour of the newer Venice cores, so as time passes by expect to see more Venice's as the newer batches are imported. Be sure your dealer/distributor might not even know he has a Venice in his stock. All they will go by are "Socket 939" and "Athlon 64 3000" , i doubt any of them care what core is inside ;)

The best way to identify the venice core is to check the last 5 characters on the first line of the chip. it should be AA4BP. The winchester cores are IK4BI. i had posted about it earlier in one of the sections. thankfully AMD has chosen to make these readings visible without opening the retail pack.

Firstly congrats on ur new Rig
u are lucky to get a Venice mistaken for Winne.
A8N-E comes for 8500 approx so u got ur Venice for 8000 thats gr8.

also A8N-E is a gr8 mobo to OC ur Venice

Stepping is the number printed on the AMD Chip below this number
ADA 3000 DAA4BP

Steping will be as LBBLE 05XX XXXX
Where XX XXXX is different for ur Venice , LBBLE cud also be different but i have
seen LBBLE only in India

If you got a 0517 i.e. 05 = 2005 & 17 is 17th Week Venice then u are one of the
lucky guys whose Venice OC's gr8 a low volts.

Many ppl with 17th week 3000+ OCed it to 2.5-2.9 on Air at 1.3-1.58[approx].

Please confirm ur stepping

Well quad im sorry the processor has been Fixed now & at no chance i am going to open all my heavily populated machine again to read the no.

as i mentioned it was al by chance -- els eif i knew i got venice than surely i w;d have taken some Screenshots

any other software method to make out what u asked for ?

nope. The only way to do it is open and remove heatsink and see.
And yeah have you used the thermal pad that came with heatsink? If yes i recommend that you clean that and apply some AS5. It will make nice difference to your temps and possible overclock.

yeah i used the Stock thermal PAd & my temperatures are just fine -- dont cross 55 in during any game & idle temps remain below 40. I guess this is just fine ??

Though i have Artic Silver 5 with me, i dotn wish to overclok it at the moment but incase i need to - i will surely apply AS5 on it & will take a Screen shot of CPU & Post
