I was wondering if it's possible to get a carton of cigarettes sent from India to the US?
If yes, how does the whole customs thing work?

avoid the headache

these guys are very dependable

Discount Marlboro Cigarettes

Sunny, taxes on Ciggies in most states are obscene.. a pack of marlboros will set you back by $9 in NY (though they are $6 just across the river in NJ)

Last I rem' CA guys had it worst at 9.5, how mucho now ?

youre allowed to carry one carton (200 ciggarettes) of smokes duty free into the states. But mailing them will be problematic. There used to be sites which you could order indian smokes internationally, but they have now put up a notice that USPS (the american postal service) has either stopped accepting packages from them or apply import duty to them (forgot which). if i remember the site ill post it here.

The point being that mailing smokes probably wont work and your best bet is to send a carton with someone going there.

should not be a problem. I used to send benson lites to my team lead in UK though office ppl. 20 -40 packs a time.

Guess its 2 or maybe more cartons for UK. In our office, any1 who visits UK, takes the customary 2 cartons of marlboro. Flavor is almost the same, but prices over there are insanely high.

Umm, it's $5 for a box of Marlboros here.
Problem is, I absolutely HATE marlboros. American Spirits are decent, but still no match for Wills Classic Milds.

There's this site - Network of Indian Stores. - but it looks really dodgy..

What about the US? I just need one carton ...

looks pretty dodgy alright

but you dont have much to lose if you order 1 carton,rt?

As for classic milds, the closest that comes to it is 555 (but even that aint easily available there)

having said that , if you stick to marlboro lights for a week odd, you'll get used to the flavor

(I hope you havent been trying the reds)

@Arya- carrying in person is very different from shipping

I've sent them an email .. waiting for a response.

It'd be a lot easier, safer if I could just ask one of my friends to send it directly...

Even i am facing the same problem....Spent 3 years in India with Classic Milds and Kings(occasionally when milds wasn't available), and now in Dubai, smoking Marlboro lights. Its not costly here but miss Classic Milds....

Luckily one of my friends visiting india for a week on 12th, will tell him to get one carton of classic milds :)

ummm...its the US customs u have to worry about...not desi. and i doubt anyone here works for the US customs :)

Actually, it's the Indian export laws that I have to worry about.

Would marking hte item as a "personal gift for personal use" work?

Sending by post is going to be a hassle at the receiving end. As said earlier, ur best bet is to use the allowed allowance and get it through someone coming to the US.

Why does the flavor of the cigarette matter so much ? :S I am a smoker too and as long as what I am smoking is a cigarette, the brand is not an issue for me. I started with Navy cut , then shifted to milds , then to ultra milds , then to Marlboro Red , then to Kings and now finally to Classic regular. I can hardly distinguish between the tastes , the only difference I feel is that some are stronger while some considerably lighter. IMO it just takes 3-4 cigarettes to get comfortable with a brand. You should try it and avoid all the hassle of exporting a carton from India.

Kay yum dee ?

@ bluffmaster : its about being brand loyal :) . And beleive me, there is a little difference noted everytime you smoke a ciggy from US and then compare it to indian..

^Don't tell me we have cigarette fanbois too ? I once smoked a carton of Marlboro Reds and lights imported from US. The only difference that I could make out was that the US Marlboro filter was a bit better compared to its Indian counterpart. But seriously going through this much hassle just to import cigarettes from India is not worth it IMO :P

mujhe na koi bhi brand chalega re smoked al brands almost.. bristrol is worst so much of kick @ 2 bucks,.. hahaha:tongue:
