@Sangram: Great work there sirji. A little complaint though, the top menu here looks a touch too old school in comparison with the overall theme.

^^ errr.... isn't laura lot cheaper than that :-/ ..... or you meant superb ??

EDIT: didn't saw that new price :)

Hi Sarang,

Thanks for the feedback, but you'll have to talk to the designers of that website separately I guess. It's not done by us but by 'Pugmarks'. Tribal work is quite a bit better than that, and it doesn't even align properly in Firefox.

Honda's Civic Hybrid cheaper by Rs 8 lakh- Automobiles-Auto-News By Industry-News-The Economic Times

onda has slashed the price of its Civic Hybrid cars

in India by an unprecedented Rs 8 lakh, as it looks to boost sales of

the environmentally-friendly sedan in an unfriendly economic environment.

After the price cut— the sharpest in Indian automobile history and introduced with immediate effect—the hybrid Civic will cost Rs 13.36 lakh compared to its launch price of Rs 21.5 lakh. This is also the first time in its decade-long presence in India that Honda, which is absorbing the full impact of the price cut, is resorting to a formal price cut to sell its cars.

Launched this June, the hybrid Civic had generated huge interest among customers, but its high price meant sales were few. The company had only managed to sell 60 cars till date. In contrast, the petrol version of the Civic, launched in India in July 2006, sold 5,236 units in the first seven months of the fiscal.

The company, which operates as Honda Siel Cars India (HSCI) in India, said the decision to cut the price was aimed at making eco-friendly cars more affordable. The Civic Hybrid is India’s first full hybrid vehicle. Its 1.3 litre petrol engine and an electric battery give it an average mileage of 20 kilometers per litre of petrol, making it the most fuel-efficient car in its category on Indian roads.

“We have taken a hit on the price to offer this eco-friendly technology to potential customers. There have been thousands of enquiries for the Hybrid, which had not culminated in actual sales,” Honda Siel v-p Jnaneshwar Sen told ET.

Every New concept in automobile falls flat in India( barring Maruti)

No wonder they have to get rid of their stock, and yea as someone posted above Automatics are going to the bread and butter for some years now, Hybrids can take a backseat for now.

Pricing of hybrid cars as of now is still ridiculous.

They say they want to promote greener stuff but make it prohibitively priced mostly.

Imho, the efforts and intentions are not sincere enough to make them mainsteam in the first place.

If they are given priority, priced right and made mainstream, the necessary infrastructure and logistics for proper maintenance and backup follows automatically.

Somewhat like they say don't smoke or don't smoke in public places but won't ban the production and sale of tobacco-based products.

As of now, no company gives a damn about a green environment. It's just about a who-did-it-first thing. Honda gets a notch up its bark for getting out a hybrid vehicle. The consumer's totally out of the picture at this point. It's merely show off value at the engineering and manufacturing level. Quite similar to what F1 and supercars are about, yes?

Man :O Just imagine the state of the 'environmentally conscious' 60 ppl who bought the car that is now straight 8L cheaper

they should actually sue honda or stop paying emiz. ask bankers to take the car back and then buy new one again. it would be still cheaper.

If someone has done 90% emi ..lol... Other factors are constant.

15.24 OTR in Chennai

I still think the regular Civic is a better buy since it owuld take years to recuperate the added investment but then you do get the satisfaction of doing your bit for the environment

Someone has to be completely demented to buy a hybrid in India. It costs more, no government sops, batteries need changing every 3-4 years and that'll cost atleast a couple of lacs. Plus its slow as a tortoise compared to the normal 1.8 liter.

But hey i am indeed demented and voila, i bought one
