Graphic Cards CM 460W and GTS 250

i had CM500w extreme power + and was using ATI 4870 with it for 2 months and the people in this forum really bashed me for it even though it was working .

In any case, you changed to a tagan 500 eventually, so its all good.

Coming back to the OP, there are 2 models within the extreme power plus if I am not mistaken- with passive pfc and one without any. I am not too sure about the quality difference between the do but could the OP make some efforts to mention the model number rather than mentioning the series? However, truth be told for the sake of the system, its always good to change to a better psu.

Any PSU blows up like that Gowt1ham. I have CM600W. Works perfect, with OC'ed 9550 and a GTX260.

+1 to striker. Thisis what I use to find PSU requirements. Has not failed me till now http://extreme.outervision.com/psucalculatorlite.jsp

I have not changed the PSU , i have changed the card to 4770 which is working like a charm.The Tagan psu , i have it on other system which eventually also has a 4870 along with x4 945 and 4HDD's .

When i used 4870 with the CM psu , it had pushed it to the limits and hence the restarts whenever there was a huge voltage fall which is rare but yet you can conclude that the 4870 was not ment for the CM psu . The 4870 used a hell lot of power on load , even more then a gtx 260 !!

And my CM psu did not suport PFC.

Yeah cool , didnt remember anything until this thread popped up .

Been busy , wanted to start post graduation abroad so preparing for diff exams . Anyway will leave to fremont california this february , secured admission in University of Phoenix- San Jose so no more TURBO !! for atleast 1.5 years .

1 issue tht is unforgivable with extreme series is they blow up easily.

^^ this model does not support passive pfc , i have the same version of 500w .

Passive PFC uses a capacitive filter at the AC input to correct poor power factor. Passive PFC may be affected when environmental vibration occurs.

Yours support active pfc , The preferable type of PFC is Active Power Factor Correction (Active PFC) since it provides more efficient power frequency .

Since Active PFC is the more complex method of Power Factor Correction, it is more expensive to produce an Active PFC power supply and hence all those cheapo chinese psu's do not support active pfc or any pfc circuit at all .

Well, my statement still stands mate.
Your comment was clearly generic and in this case, the OP wasn't using the model you had your experience with it.
So you see how it affects one's view, with a generalized comment?

I'm not sure whether GTS 250 can successfully run on CM460W but I still run a ATI 4850 on CM390W extreme series for more than 4 months and have played games like shift, crysis with no lag or performance issues. (proc was phenom-I x4 again a power hungry one)

I don't know why there is a chase after high end powersupplies might be a OC thingy I suppose.

^ with 16A and 18A on the +12V rails, it's cutting it close...till the card starts choking.

i wonder why people curse the CM Extreme series.

I'm using it since past 2and 1/2 yrs and facing no issues. See my siggy.

I have oced pro/mobo and gpu too. And have even stressed to its par limits at times but it never blew any of my system components.

Yes but running gts 250 will be really tight on that psu.
