PC Peripherals CM 590 Vs CM 690

Hi,

I was planning to buy a system for 60 K , and I had finalized my configuration,

but now I have increased my budget and now I am going for HD 5970 :), now I have read many forums and HD5970 being 12 inches long does not seem to fit in CM 690, whereas CM 590 can fit cards as long as 18 inches. I just wanted to know that what are the things that I am going to miss in CM 590...

Another small question about orientation of PSU when mounted at the bottom of the case, should it pull air from bottom of the case, where all the dust is, or it should be mounted upside down, so that it pulls air from with in the cabinet...

Please help...

I have CM590 and its good. I would recommend it. Not sure if it will fit any 18inch cards, I have a 4770 which fits properly.

How have you fitted your PSU, with the PSU fan facing the bottom grill, and what is the clearance of the cabinet from ground??
 
i hav haf932 and i have fitted my PSU with fan facing bottom.. as CM590 nd 690 has enough elevation from ground ( thanks to large rubber grips) it can easily suck fresh air from bottom.. But mind it that u should keep ur cabinet on table or something.. do not put it on ground else it will suck dust along with air.. Might b a problem for ur PSU in future...
 
Yes, there is about 1cms between the ground and the chassis bottom, so enough to suck/dispell air by the PSU Fan.

Also chassis is located bottom of the Computer Table, and there is not much space around chassis for dust accumulation. Also I cover the whole chassis with a paper cover when not in use, made by old/used newspaper. Yes, if you are not going to cover it, dust will get accumulated on the cabinet. Advantage is that the front bays have dust filer, so dust will not enter the cabinet. Once in a while, you need to clean the filters, thats not a big problem.

One think I don't like about CM590 is the air (fan) vents on the top. It is very scary, by mistake if you spill some liquid, then PC is history. Also dust falls in thru that. It needs to be covered.

CM 590 is way way better in terms of functionality, flexibility of peripherals used and ease of use for those keeping it on the floor esp.

In-line HDD bay decent for using 2 HDDs- 4 will be too cramped for space- HDds run hotter in CM690 inspite of using faster fan.

But will have to buy one more HDD cage or 5.25>3.5 adaptors for more HDDs.

Way too less plastic used- the 690 is like a 590 with a plastic armour and the tabs for fitting are gonna break easily over some time. :P

No Rest button on 590. :S

But one can make a ghetto one if need often. :P

The sheet metal used on 590/690 is not that great- thinner than it could have been for the prices it sells for and rusts pretty easily.

But what more to expect from a 'poor man's CM Stacker 810'. :P
