Past few months this is annoying me : That CMOS date/time reset on system bootup.

Steps taken till now:

1. Changed the battery already, even twice !! So i guess this is not the solution, there could be something else.

2. Completely formated the Hard Disk.

3. Cleaned up the whole cabinet, checked for loose wirings......nothing found !!

But still, the problem didn't solved. C'mmon guys, what i m missing ??

PC specs:

P4 3.0 HT, 2GB DDRII, 500GB WD, 450W Intex SMPS, what else...

try flashing bios again with new or same version. use ups, since possible power failure while doing so will give you an expensive paperweight.

check for the FSB multiplier.
it should match with your Processor FSB that is what is causing the cmos error.
EDIT: I think it is the cpu clock ratio which gets set to 8x.
Had a similar issue with my earlier p4 setup the issue gets resolved when i used to set the clock ratio to about 15.

Update : I have faced some slowdown also.....that's y i formatted the system.
Consider me a hardware noob !!

Did you check CUP/system temperature. Also check capacitors on Mother Board.

The temp sometime rose to 50 deg C, otherwise varies around 40deg C.
How to check the capacitors ??

I'm totally out of concept to how to flash bios.....the system used to run fine few months ago, so do u really think i need to update the bios. I never did it since i bought this machine way back in 2007. Also, i heard there is relative risk in trying to do these stuffs...
I'll take it as the last option...

ok, i had a setup which was a bit similar but sold it off a year back ...so could you upload the photos of the bios setup.

show me the bios photos with which you enter in the first three categories of the bios click the photo and upload them.
I think i can help :)

is yr mobo connector where the +- terminals for cmos battery damages, any signs of erosion etc? Try cleaning the terminals. If u have an voltmeter/multimeter, check reading at input terminal once battery is installed. Also try changing the ram slots.

^^ speenfan gives wrong reading. Use everst or read temp to check your temp.

I read some where that if some oscillator (found in mobo) passes out then the CMOS clock acts weird. BTW how old is your mobo?

Yeah, i've also heard that speedfan is not always correct......

the everest showed only CPU temp which is 40 deg C, constantly......

So, i guess speed fan is right this time, cross checked with Prime95.

i've reapplied thermal paste.....still no improvements....cross checked the SMPS with my frnd's one.....no improvements....

The whole rig is 3 yrs old.....and all the components are local brands !!

wtf? temp 2 shows -128C :O

or my eyes need a checkup!!
lolzz....no u dont need any checkup.....speed fans sometime shows irrelevant stats, not taken from the sensors, u can say imaginary :D !!

was not at home...nd finally back....
the gud news is that, no more heating issues.....the HSF was the culprit, made its replacement !! Now temp under control, <40 C
