Well guys dad jus bought our first car...ofcourse being first car its 2nd hand model....santro of 2000....dad wanted me and my sis to have a hand on this first later might go for new.....

But with this one most important stuff came is the budget 4 petrol..now have to keep money for petrol ard......

Mom is pestering me to convert it to cng or lpg as that will be more economical......

Since its an old model i dont think spending on it will worth...ALso have no idea whether if i convert will it be economical or not...

As far as my knowledge goes if u increase the usage of car than only conversion will be beneficial....we are not regular traveller..but will use for normal stuff like family function or market stuff...or some trip ard sea face......

So what do u guys suggest

Its a petrol model

Yup, petrol is best suited for occasional usage. It will minimize any maintenance cost. IF your planning to drive it around daily, then change over to CNG.

diesel :bleh: I've yet to see a santro run on diesel :P

but my choice still stands. I own a diesel indica turbo :devil2:

amazing performance :ohyeah: not in the swift league , but i get to smile when i drive and when i fill 'er up... the only sad part is when i have to pay the EMI's :ashamed:

CONVERT IT - AFAIK The conversion kit is < 25k and the running cost is less then half of petrol - and its more economical to convert an older model rather then a new one which would void the warranty. If you do the math you will find the pay back will be ~ 6000 Kms so if you drive that much in a few months its worth it, but if you drive that much in more then a year, forget it.

Also, go for CNG, not sure if using LPG is legal.

Using LPG is legal, but you should not use the domestic use LPG (its only illegal).

Running cost will not reduce to 50%, it will be between 30 to 40 %. Apart from this there is maintenance cost involved (it may be negligible, but you may need to go to work shop more often than running in petrol)

Also you will see a loss in pickup.

If you drive a lot, then opt for LPG/CNG. Otherwise you are better of with the Petrol.

fine will stick with petrol...now question arise normal or xtra????

Somone suggested normal as xtra has lot of problem with it(says engine main kachra aa jata hain)

Stick to regular. High octane fuel is only necessary if you are modding the car and running high compression which is highly unlikely :P.

I think he is talking about "power" and the likes, not high octane.

talking abt xtra premium and all...ab ya octane stuff kaha sa aa gaya???(wht does high octane means)

power or sada .. take ur pick, but definitely no "kachra" comes in the power.

just make sure its not adulterated, that is far more important then anything else.

I personally have seen some difference running on the likes of speed, and xtra premium. its definitely smoother, and lasts an extra couple of km. I wouldn't mind spending 1.5rupees more on that.

I have not seen any difference in the petrol with additives added (Power, Xtra premium, whatever..). So, now I am sticking to regular Petrol.
Premium Petrol is about Rs 2 higher than the regular Petrol. If you fill the tank you are paying about Rs. 75 more for it. For this price you can buy 1.5 liters of regular petrol :P.

What car? Unless you have a BMW 325i with an 11:1 CR, there's no difference you'd notice on any car. Thats the only made in india car that actually needs high octane fuel. Thats unless you are running a turbochargered car with 1 bar+ of boost. I've tried everything including Speed 97 on my car as well. Absolute waste of cash.

LPG cuts cost to 60%. Do the LPG conversion if

1. You plan to keep the car for atleast 2 years.

2. If you travel more than 750kms a month.

Say you travel 1000kms a month. You will end up saving nothing in a year as you will not have broken even from the cost of convertion...Infact in the first year your score is 18k-25k=-7k.

If you keep the car for 2 years you will save abt 36k-25k=11k(considering cost of conversion).

You will save around 29k in 3 years.

If you travel more and/or keep the car longer the savings become more substantial :)

Simple maths :P
