Hello all,

I have downloaded codecs for Vista x64 (its K-lite x64). Now my doubt is do I need to uninstall the existing codes before installing these or can I install them just like that. My doubt is that though I will install the x64 codecs if the OS decides to use the 32 bit ones no point in installing those then. BTW I have installed K-Lite codec pack 32 version full with Media Player Classic.

TIA
-Michael.

Only x64 apps will be able to use the x64 codes .. i'm on Vista x64, and i've installed both x86 and x64 Klite Codec Pack's on my system .. most x86 players use the x86 codec's, and certain x64 apps like VirtualDub x64 is happy with the x64 packs .. plus without the x64 packs, u wont get thumbnail previews in explorer for all file types :) ..

Long back, i used to install codec packs and then after i started viewing HD i stopped using them coz of lots of issues...
I usually install all the codes that i need only and then i am good to go...:)

As far as possible, don't use codec packs and use individual codecs which u only need...

Thanks for all of your suggesstions. I installed the codec pack. After that the thumbnails started showing :) And after googling I found out that there are 32 and 64 bit versions of WMP installed in Vista x64 :ashamed: (that coming from a Windows System Admin) anyway... I got it running. After I finished viewing a movies or 2 I decided to shut down my PC and there I got a BSOD. Now I'm curious as to is it because of these codecs that the BSOD showed up...
