well my comp is pretty old but was working reasonably fine until a few days back...

my comp doesnt start off until i giv it a few restarts...it generally gets stuck at the windows loading screen or on a black screen with the white blinker at top..or smtimes says boot failure plz restart... finally when i do manage to start it is by running the last known good configuration.....

and after this it works fine as if nothin went rong ever...

plz help.. i don want that one fine day it doesnt start at all..

PLEASE REPLY FAST AS I WOULD NOT WANT TO SHUT DOWN MY COMP TILL THIS PROB IS SOLVED......

n yea i hav run virus scans n stuff..nuthin detected...

Its ur smps or something with ur motherboard i think the Ram ...

i suggest u take it to the dealer and get both replaced or checked, its a common problem and soon ur pc wont start at all..

Check Your HaRD DISKS... check if they are properly plugged in....

Format ur HDD wenevr possible coz ur boot sectors could be getting old/worn out...

Man I have faced this problem before and atleast in my case it was a faulty SMPS. Changed it and everything went on pretty well...

thanks guys...

some more info...

my hard disk is not even 6 months old so i don really think that wud be the issue but my smps in over 2n half years...

n yea i think it is one of the two coz all i do i press the plugs in harder n it works...

seems like i need a new smps....

how much woud it cost... considering my 400w intex currently meets my needs... don really need one which i can carry over to a new system sometime later...

get a Perx Dual Fan 450W SMPS = Rs. 500 or Buy a second hand but again some decent company... Plz dont rely on Intex/Tech-Com n such jaali stuff... u may end up blowing ur mobo

Mostly it's the SMPS..

But, it could be a motherboard/RAM problem also...

Can you get that checked as well?

You can be rest assured though, that it's not a HDD issue!

@sato1986

I've never heard of the Perx brand !! (for PSUs)

I wouldn't rely on that also.. Maybe it's on par with Intex/Generic PSUs..

hmm now u guys gettin me confused....

ok my pc also happens to restart on its own at times......

does that help in zeroing in on d prob???

n can some1 also suggest a reasonable smps..

Random restart is a typical response of damaged / failing / overloaded PSU-s.

eXtreme Power Supply Calculator Lite v2.5

The above link is a very good indicator of what anyone should require. But note that the power value they state should be applied ONLY to known-brand PSU-s. Super-cheap stuff available here IS NOT RELIABLE.

Find out your rating from that site, and ask here. Then we can think about specific models.

Ack! Just noticed your specs in the sig. I op-ed the link and got a ~225W recommended output for your machine.

Umm... the cheapest name brand PSU I could find online was the CoolerMaster eXtreme Power 390W. And that's at 1.75k minus shipping.

That's probably overkill for your system...

And since I have no clue about which 'local' brands will suffice, someone with any clue, please take over!

A friend of mine had a similar problem and he just refitted the connection after dusting the cabinet, and bingo - the problem was gone ! So check for any loose connections, and dirt accumulation. And you might save yourself some bucks :)
