Hi...
I am looking for a laptop with very basic config for less than 30k.

currently selected Compaq CQ40-425 TU

which has a T4200 processor.

I am planning for a dual boot with vista and linux..

Will it be a good buy...Please suggest...

Acer 5738z
Intel Pentium dual core T-4200(2GHz,800FSB,1MB cache)
Intel GL40 Chipset
2GB 1066MHz DDRIII RAM
320GB HDD
15.6" screen
DVD R/W
1.3MP webcam
Wi-Fi
BlueTooth
DOS
price: 27 to 28k
This is the best VFM laptop(alon with its sibling-14") in the sub 30k category. Go for it.

AFAIK, Acer offers laptops with Linux and Vista. Vista one costs a bit more. But then some shops offer "free" XP/Vista even if you buy Linux one. The build quality of new Acers is pretty decent and VFM at their price point. I have no experience with support, but I feel it would not be top-notch (I hope it is not too bad also).

Earlier, we used to compare any vendor support with Dell support. But now, people are getting bad experience from Dell too.

i have been using a compaq c160-104tu for last nine odd months. the build quality feels good, and i will rate it a notch higher than the acer.

that said, the keyboard on the newer acer feels far better. n yes compaq looks a bit elegant

Thanks for the replies..

I will check with my vendor regarding the price for both the compaq and acer models..

So both are equally good VFM??

To be frank CQ-40 series is a crap.dont ever purchase one.frequent problems with display, motherboard etc and also doesnt support win XP.Try acer with carepack.

hi..guys..

If you want a better processor and more RAM, buy the Acer Aspire 4736(Rs.32k approx).
The Acer Aspire 4736z has a slightly inferior processor(performance difference isn't too much) and lesser RAM but all other specs remain the same but costs around Rs.27.6k

So buy one from among the two according to your budget and needs.

Support of Acer is not that good. And I have heard people say they are cheap, but start giving problems after 1-2 years of usage.

Compaq is better than Acer at support.

Why dont you consider DELL 14" if you can extend budget?

Their notebooks are very good. Support is also great.

They provide onsite warranty (They will pick up from home in case of problems), whereas acer provides carry-in warranty.(ie., you have to take ur laptop to them each time for any problems and they take their own time for repairs/spares)

Dell inspiron 14

T4200

G45 express chipset

2GB DDRII

250GB HDD

1.3MP webcam

DVD R/W

Card Reader

Dell usually waive off the 4% VAT when you buy online.

Price:28,900+900(delivery charges)+1100(Back pack)

Consider dell if this specs will suffice you. It is sub-30k and has very good After sales service. I have a inspiron for 28 months and not a single problem till date. :)
