Hi All...

I have a Compaq laptop V3242AU, i think that is the no.

Its not powering up most times. I have to try like 5 or 6 times, if it has to boot up. I called up the service centre guys. They said its a known issue in that laptop series and the issue is a busted motherboard. And it will cost me 8k to fix it. :(.

I had this laptop for abt 1.5 years+. And i would be ok if it was under a 5k range.

Do you think i should fix the laptop for 8k?
Are there any cheaper ways to source the motherboard?
Or just sell it? and at what price could i possibly get?

Jerin

IMO sell it & buy a new one as it's costing you a lot.

also, the standard config offered now a days are far much better than they used to be 1.5yrs earlier.

mm...

for my usage a dell vostro be enough..that be like 35k ... that is huge before 8k...

but 8k is huge for me now... getting a car soon...so need to be as cheap as possible.. :(

if its with the nvidia then it has 18months warranty ,check hp india website if its in the faulty models . it will be repaired free of cost . and tell them to replace the MB and not just update the BIOS

I had the same laptop series v3155au... is a amd processor???
If so then this is a common problem and has been accepted by hp but unfortunately no one knew of this problem and they got away with it
a using this laptop for about 4 years and the mobo died on me twice. 1st time they replaced it for free and the second time they told they would charge me 9k for the same
So an enineer gave me the option to renew my warranty and then he would get my work done for free did that and got my mobo and dvd writter replaced...
the warranty extension costs around 5k. call 180030005050 and ask for laptop warranty extension tell them ur laptop is out of town so u cannot get it checked by them personally and it woks perectly fine... after payin u will receive the warranty card by email in about 15 to 20 days after ehich u can give ur laptop for repair and if u do quickly u will get an hp bagpack for free...
Best of Luck

^^I was in the same position as you some time back. Most of the V3000 series lappies have this issue and HP has published an advisory which states that the laptop will be repaired free of cost if its within 2 years of its purchase date. (1 year of warranty + 1 year of advisory). I got my lappy fixed for free even though I was way past my 1 year warranty period.

Hoping things would work out...

I called them and they will send me the details... but i need to give my product ID and serial no. will that be any issues?

PS. just got my mail.

dude call 30306363 this is the toll free number for technical assistance... Have heard somethin what pat said so try it out call them and tell them u laptop is not powerin so they will tell u what to do(attempt to remove static charge) and then they hopefully will tell u to take it to a particular service center for replacement and will also inform u that u are in orbiting period by which ur mobo will be replaced for free...
In case that thing does not help call the service from another number and tell them u want to extend ur warranty so give it to the guy concerned and do the same thing told u earlier

^^^

I called the warranty extension guys like you said...

They said to pay 4633 to extend my warranty and asked for product and serial no. is that ok?..

cant call the 30306363 from my cell. its disconnecting. Saying "you are not allowed to call this no"

dial 022 then 30306363 u will be charged for that call its only toll free from landline
give serial no. and product no. no problem at all...
but first talk to the guys at the 30306363 see if u can get it for free and then call these warranty extension aferwards...
Do mention that u are in the advisory period as u read that n the net then i guess they will be forced to replace the thing as u know about it(maybe but cant guarantee)

(sorry for postin again forgot a point in the earlier post)
They charge around 5k for warranty extension so do no worry it is stil cheaper then the other companies (8k for dell for a year)
Got mine for 4.9k
