Graphic Cards Computer did not boot up?

This problem has been happening since this morning. I dont know what is wrong. At this moment, it is working fine. That is why I didnt put this in troubleshooting section.

Anyway when I went for my exam in the morning, I had left my comp on(as usual) for downloading.

when I came back, the monitor was off..... the CPU was running. The CPU fan, GPU fan, everything was running. But the monitor was blank and the green LED was blinking as it usually does when I switch off the PC but the monitor is on.

The monitor was as if, there was no input from the computer.

Anyway I pressed the reset button and it started working fine. Then I tried playing CSS and the same thing happened. The display just went blank. And the green LED started blinking as if I had switched off the PC.

but of course, the PC was on.

And then it started happening more frequently. I went for dinner and after I came back, the same thing had happened.

after that the comp didnt start up at all.... the first time, it came up till the WELCOME SCREEN and then blanked out.
The next time, it came up till the Windows logo.

Then only till BIOS. The next time, it didnt boot up at all.

I tried everything, resetting the BIOS, checking the cables, etc...etc...didnt boot up.

then I connected my HDD to the promise controller and it booted up abt 3 times. And every time I tried connecting to the net, I started getting a BSOD with the "machine_check_exception" message.

Finally after 3 tries, I changed the HDD connection back to the VIA port and put the LAN card in another PCI slot.

It is working fine since then.

What the heck is happening?? PSU?? Mobo problem??

Please help.

2 reasons

1. RAM modules being lose or being covered in dust
2. Faulty PSU

1. Remove the ramsticks and clean the contacts properly with an eraser. Make sure you wipe out all the dust and the leftover eraser particles. Clean the slots properly with a brush (painting brush with soft bristles). And then try.

2. Get your PSU checked with a certified technician.

hope this helps.

Chk the card... The GFX card... Cause IIRC thats the last component you were messing around with... NV Silencer... See if it is working fine... Try replacing the stock HSF... If the problem goes away then its the HSF...

seems like a big Graphics Card problem.

same thing had happened with me when my Nvidia MX4000 AGP 8X GFX Card had died.

Maybe that circuit which you had got shouldered again by Sony is the culprit.

That was even my thought....the GPU. but in the afternoon, I checked the temps and they were perfectly normal.

And now, 2 people have told me that the problem could be due to dirt on the RAM slots ..... Amol and Rahul....

Anyway I will keep these suggestions in mind if it happens again.

Will try some game now and see .....

There might be some issue with the CPU-Mobo sub-system.But u r quite vague...see the hardware monitor in ur BIOS for the temperatures. Might be as well a AGP card issue as my 5700LE died after such problems.

Dpnt scare me!!!! I am sooooo dead if this goes "kaput" ....

This card has to last me for the next 2 and a hlaf years!!!!

And temps of the CPU/mobo/GPU are all ok.... I checked in the BIOs and I have the side panel open....so, temps cant be an issue

This is a sure shot graphics card malfunction. Make sure the heatsink is attached properly to the GPU. Signal loss generally happens when a graphics card is on its deathbed.

It is not just signal loss....... One time I was playing some video and the sound also got stuck.....

Anyway I played CSS for some time and it seemed fine......

regenade is right i also think its the AGP card problems.. my old 5200 also died like this.

This happens to me sometimes when my a/c trips and causes power fluctuations.

The monitor turns off while everything else stays on - fans, led's, etc.
I can't recover unless I switch off the machine from the mains and restart (cabinet led's glow but switches don't work).

Well not to dishearten you Nikhil, but the "machine_check_exception" BSOD was exactly what I got when my 6800 died on my A8V.

I guess its time for alternate GPU arrangments...

If that happens, my gaming days are over...... That is for sure....

Does CSS work on a Geforce 4 MX 400 SE?? at 640 x 480 and lowest settings?? :'( :'(

And the BSOD was I think because of the LAN card. The PC worked fine until I tried connecting to the net.

Once is happenstance. Twice is coincidence. Three times is Enemy Action :P

So, I dont think it was coincidence that every time I tried activating my Internet, I got a BSOD.

And if there was some problem with the GPU, would it show up in the Event Viewer thing in Control Panel??

hmm dude... try setting everything back to stock (cpu gpu everything )... get the stock HSF back...reinstall the card ... meaning make sure u put the card back in the slot properly...coz u did remove it for installin the cooler recently...and if everything keeps happenin again then find some bloke who will buy ur card or get it covered under warranty ...and get a new one :D

Hmm i more or less think its a PSU issue, chck with some other PSU. I any case isnt your card under warranty ?
Yeah but from BFG USA...

Don't worry Nikhil, it can very well be a LAN card issue too.

I used to have regular BSOD's with my PCI Modem and Soundcard.

Man VIA sucks :@ !!!

OK, this must be a PSU problem. I used to have a similar problem whenever I started surfing the net (restarts). Turned out it was my PSU that was spoilt. Once I replaced it, myriad problems disappeared.
