After some research this is the config I have planned. I don't have the whole thing figured out so I would very much appreciate your help in finishing my configuration. (Added some approximate prices for components I haven't settled on yet to help me calculate total cost.)

All prices from http://deltapage.com

Purpose: Gaming is the priority. I won't be overclocking.
Budget: Rs. 40,000

Processor:
Athlon X4 620
>5000

Motherboard:
<please suggest>
>5000

GPU:
ATI Radeon HD 4850
>6200

Cabinet:
<please suggest>
>2000

Monitor:
<please suggest a 19" monitor>
>6300 (can I fit in a Samsung 2233SW?)

RAM:
2 x 2GB DDR3 1066MHz
(brand?)
>4500

UPS:
APC <please suggest model appropriate for my config's power usage>
>3000

PSU:
<please suggest>
>4000

Hard Disk:
<please suggest a 7200 RPM drive>
>2500

Optical Drive:
<generic>
>1100

I would like to buy a 5750 but not only is it more expensive, the 4850 seems to a better performer. What do you think?

Processor: Athlon II X4 630 - 5.2k

Motherboard: Gigabyte 785GMT-UD2H - 5.6k

RAM: Kingston 4GB (2*2GB) DDRIII 1333MHz - 4.4k

GPU: Sapphire HD4850 512MB DDRIII - 6.5k

HDD: WD Blue AAKS 500GB SATAII - 2.5k

Monitor: Samsung 2233SW-9k

Cabinet: CM Elite 310 - 1.6k

SMPS: Gigabyte Superb 460W - 2.2k

Optical Drive: L.G. GH22NS30 SATA/Samsung SH-S22F SATA - 1.1k

Speakers: Altec Lansing BXR1121 - 1.1k

Keyboard+Mouse: Logitech Multimedia Combo - .7k

UPS: APC 550VA - 1.9k

Total: 41-42k

If you are on a tight budget get 2GB RAM now and get 2GB later. DDRIII RAM is decreasing so you can add them later when they are cheaper :)

Thank you for the price check and suggestions. I don't need speakers or input devices (have them already). I will go with 4 GB RAM right away cause I can't bear a 2 GB setup.

So a 550VA UPS is fine? I thought I would need 650. I don't need backup time. Just clean power and a few minutes to shutdown my PC.

BEHOLD THE i3 is HERE --

Proccy.-Intel Core i3 530(2.93 Ghz)
M/B.-GA-H55M-UD2H
Cabinet.-Cooler Master Elite 310
PSU.-Gigabyte Superb Pro 460 W
Ram.-4GB Gskill-1333Mhz F3-10600CL9D-4GBNT
----------------------------------------- ~21300/- approx. (for all above)
GPU-Sapphire HD5770 1GB DDRIII - 10.3k (Latest DX11 card)
HDD.-WD 500GB Blue - 2.5k
Optical Drive.-Sony DVDRW -1.1k
Keyboard+Mouse.-Logitech Combo - 0.7k
LCD.-Benq E2200HD - 9.5k
Total - 45.4k
Core i3 is better for gaming...

Yeah, 550VA is enough for 5 minutes backup.

I'd advise to get Seasonic S12II 380W SMPS for an extra 700/- and get NZXT GAMMA in stead of CM elite if you are from Mumbai ( even you can get it shipped from Prime ABGB for aditional few hundred shipping charges ).

If you are left about 8k after purchasing everything except the graphics card, then get the ATI 5750 which is less power consuming and DX11 :)

If u want to cut costs and can bear with msi warranty, consider MSI GTS 250 512 MB at 5.8k from mediahome.in. You'll also get physx.

but it's not for hardcore gaming..
OP has clearly mentioned that he needs this rig for Gaming Purpose..

^whats wrong with GTS 250? it beats HD 4850 by a slight margin
EDIT: DIdnt see ur earlier post.....HD5770 is good

I really cannot go over 40k guys, even if it means settling for lesser components. Thanks for all the input. And yes, the rig is purely for gaming.

Athlon II X4 hands down for future proofness..

GTS250 512MB is a better option, especially at 5.8k....

Get this, and stick with a BenQ G2220HD @ 8k FULL HD

if you are considering price/performance ratio for GTS 250 then it's totally VFM..
but if you want a PC that is intended to be used only for Gaming then atleast get atleast a GTX260 or equivalent that's why i mentioned 5770 as it's DX11 compatible & equivalent to GTX 260..
About the processor i agree in that too but Athlon II X4 is not good in gaming when compared to i3..

Processor: Phenom II X3 720 - 6.3k
Motherboard: Gigabyte 785GMT-UD2H - 5.4k
RAM: G-Skill 2GB DDRIII 1333MHz - 2.6k
GPU: Sapphire 4850 512MB DDRIII- 6.5k/ Power Color HD5770 - 10.25k
HDD: Seagate 500GB SATAII 7200.12 series- 2.4k
Cabinet: CM Elite 310 - 1.6k
SMPS: Gigabyte Superb 460W - 2.2k
Optical Drive: L.G. GH22NS30 SATA-1.1k
Monitor: Samsung 2233SW-9k
TOTAL ~ 37.1k

Unfortunately UPS cost also falls into my budget and I dare not go with just 2 GB of RAM.

The BenQ G2220HD option is very interesting but I don't think much of their service (correct me if I'm wrong).

The 2 core i3 530 at Rs. 6000 looks to be an interesting option but I'll go with the 4 core.

Once again, thanks for all the suggestions. Now I'm off to buy this stuff!

OMG here is where u dont get the point...if he indeed goes for a GPU like HD5770, then he'd be going for FULL HD gaming, and the BenQ G2220HD is a 21.5" FULL HD monitor anyways.

Now when you go FULL HD, the gap between the two processors is negligible except in some games like WIC. So these benchmarks at 1440x900 doesn't mean much.. IMHO overall the quad-core is much better, while being cheaper too.
