Which one should i go for?

Samsung Ace or Motorolla Defy

I don't like Defy's looks so am not that keen on buying it..but i haven't heard or seen many samsung aces anywhere on the forum and am thus scared that it might not be a great phone...i am looking for atleast a year with the phone i buy!

If you have some other phones for suggestions that fit the bill (budget 15K) then please do comment :)

Thank you for looking!

as per the hardware defy slays ace.

defy is dust and water proof and stays durable and os is stable and more roms and customization is available than ace.

ace is overpriced for that kind of harware.

if u dont like the look of defy, better extend the budget or get used mobiles for 15k price tag...

Aah! thank you for the suggestion but i've always hated the idea of creating a mini cheaper version of a costlier phone :P

Also i can buy the vibrant and captivate but i don't know where to buy it from...i mean i don't want a second hand phone as it is gonna be a gift to my brother for completing his HSC :D

I have a friend who shows off to his friends his defy, everytime someone asks abt it, he takes the phone and puts it under running water :P :Show-Off: wish i can do the same for my 5800 ;)

If i want one phone which will put-up a fight before it dies, i would take the Defy :)

I love my Defy and it is every way better than my friend's Ace. However I wish that it had physical home button like the Ace, and not capacitive buttons.

You said you wanted a phone to last you atleast a year, right? So that means, used phones is out of question. I would have suggested excellent phones from US for your price range, but using a phone without warranty for a year is a huge risk.

Phones that I think that not only fits your budget, but also good enough hardware wise to last you a year or more:

1) Defy - Can be overclocked to 1ghz, excellent support with custom rom, rugged for hard use, Branding.

2) Spice mi-410 - For 13k, this is an absolute steal from hardware standpoint. Amazing 1ghz second gen qualcomm processor msm 8255 coupled with adrenos 205 which beats the motorola defy hands down in hardware dept. The hardware is same as seen in Xperia Arc, Desire S, Incredible S. Also includes front facing camera. You need not be afraid of Spice, as they are not making this phone. They are just branding it. It is originally Hauwei X6 which is rebranded and released in different markets. Also support/custom mods and rom will be there since it is being rebranded and released in several countries. Already spice is planning to release gingerbread this month.

3) Samsung Ace - A BIG NO-NO FOR A PHONE THAT COSTS ABOUT 15K. Maybe 10-12k I would have recommended it.

4) Hauwei X5 - Another good model. If you are thinking about buying this, you might well as buy the X6 (Known as Spice mi 410) But this model is not a slouch either with hardware similar to Desire Z.

between the two its an easy choice - Motorola Defy! it not only has better overall specs which translate to faster usage, better camera, better video recording, plus the 'defy' tag of being water and dust resistant is fabulous and at this price range (or in any other as well) it goes unmatched!

Amazing response for defy...I guess i'll have to go with defy now :D

Thanks a ton for the suggestions guys :D

You can buy phones like Galaxy S Vibrant/Captivate for ~13k, Motorola Atrix 4G for ~18k all inclusive.

You need to keep watching ebay.com for bids on these phones and try and win a bid for a good price. Then you can get it shipped via Aramex Shop and Ship service to India for 1k-2k, inclusive of shipping, handling and customs charges. There are other such services too like ICC world.

BTW, these phones may be slightly used or unused open boxed phones, so you need to be extra careful while you bid, as it's not even feasible to send it back if you find out it's not what you were looking for. No warranty as well.

everybody benn gunning for defy, but what abt the high SAR levels?
isnt that a pt of concern..?

This article should clear your doubt: Importance(or lack of importance) of SAR rating

SAR rating is just to test if a phone can ever exceed a particular value of radiation emitted(/absorbed by humans). If it exceeds that value, it fails in the test. It is the maximum/worst case value and does not indicate the radiation emitted by the phone normally. And as quoted by FCC, 'ALL cell phones must meet the FCC’s RF exposure standard, which is set at a level well below that at which laboratory testing indicates, and medical and biological experts generally agree, adverse health effects could occur.' If you read the article fully, you will also see that if one phone has a lower SAR rating than another, it does not necessarily mean that it is safer to use.
