hey guys,

i want to gift my dad a scooter which im confused between HONDA DIO/ SUZUKI ACCESS/ VESPA :(

i know all 3 diff in case specifications, but still i need good bike,

dad loves vespa for styling and all, but some mechanic said dont buy it,, :(

suggest me best one, test rides of all 3 done.. :)

Honda Activa with it's metal body would be my suggestion. My mom's been using it for almost 8 yrs now, still runs well than the 4 yr old Dio. Got it for my wife last year and reiterates my opinion as the best scooter around. Vespa has good retro looks and with the recent price cut is a good option but not sure about the real world performance.

Which state do you live in? Did your dad drive any other 2 wheeler?

As far as I recollect the Vespa had problem with brakes , but changing the shoes to another brand seems to have solved the problem.

I have an Activa going to be an year old, Power & mileage seems to be pretty good. I have never given to the Honda service center/ Local guys for servicing(I have heard horrors). I do it my self. It will be getting Shell Advance Ultra Fully synthetic oil change after 2ooo kms.

The problem I face most of the time is
1. It is not suited for my height 6 feet +( Most of scootys will give me the same problem)
2. If I am taking a pillion then I always get a backache which is not a good sign.

The only Scooter I am comfortable driving with or without a Pillion is Bajaj Chetak which I restored recently.
Fantastic long seat, Good under thigh support & enough space for the rider & the pillion to sit comfortably without complaining.

As far as Access is concerned I would suggest that vehicle for the telescopic suspension over the Activa, but the first thing after purchasing the vehicle is the Tyre change. The stock tyres are utter crap. My friend's brother fell from the vehicle while braking & the tyres provided no grip.

Dio is simply activa in an fibre body. Only advantages are weight, easy to replace if damaged & finally looks.

Finally, If you live in Delhi( Northern states), Goa or Ahmedabad & your dad has driven the Chetak for a long time & loved it too. Then your best option is get him an LML NV LS which is roughly Rs.70,000/-

Happy Scootering

I've been using an activa for about 7 years now and it doesn't look like its going to retire anytime soon.

That said there are a of options available in the market now. Best would be to go take test ride yourself and take a call.
