Friends,

Planning to take Home Theater Or Computer speakers... Not able to decide which one to take...

Requirement:
Clear Good sound with powerful bass
HDMI Out MUST
Optical In MUST (To give WDTV sound output)

Advantage with Home Theater is you get DVD player too..

Here are shortlisted models..

Computer speakers - Can only find Logitech X-540 in my range.

Home Theater - Here are the models
Samsung HT-Z220
Samsung HT-Z310
Samsung HT-Z320

LG HT 502
LG HT 604

Could not find models in Phillips Or Sony with HDMI Out & Optical In.

Can anyone please give suggestions.. If you are using any of above models of Samsung/LG then please give feedback.

Budget?

Philips HT 3571 suits your requirement but is priced at around ~18k. The DVD player also doubles up as an audio receiver, accepts optical in and coaxial in, has an HDMI out and the upscaling performance isn't very bad either.

Just curious but why is HDMI out in the requirements? I have never come across speakers with HDMI out! AVRs have both HDMI in and out which falls in a totally different league altogether.

Thanks for reply.

Philips HT 3571 is way too costly. I am looking for around 10000 Rs. Preferably Samsung as can good discount on it.

@Desecrator

Ek dam sachi vat kari bhai :)

My bad, I dont need speakers with HDMI Out, but DVD player of HT should have HDMI out.

Can you suggest a model in my range.

i wrote a long az reply but my lan got disconnected ..

So now i'll write a short one.

X-540 not at all to be used as a home theater system . lack of bass after sertain volume level is annoying.

Satellites are good . but 4" sub drivers is not at all capable of handling high level of volume. the option of virtual surround is gud.

@aftereffects

Thank you for update. Are u in Bangalore ?

Does X540 gives better effect when watching 720p movie ?

x540 is definitely better than the home theater speakers you mentioned altec lansing fx5051 is also good in clarity and deep bass but it has slight hissing very low but some times it is noticing but the bass is outstanding at that price

@manu george

I am also considering Samsung HT Z220 which has optical in, HDMI out, FM as well USB support.

Have you heard Samsung HT Z220 ? Better then X540 ?

I have Logitech X-540 Speaker...

They have good bass and overall sound quality is awesome specially with HD stuff..

I can give a demo to someone here in Delhi..

@pranut

Thanks bro.. Looking for someone in Bangalore who owns X540 so can decide before purchasing.

x540 really the better option than those home theaters if you are looking for clarity, the output of philips,lg,sony and other brands are not correct they are saying about 500watts rms,700watts etc but truth is they are crap

Thanks Manu,

HT has optical In with Dolby Digital Encoders so just inclined towards it.

Let me check HT over weekend & decide.

Anyone with X540 in Bangalore can give me 10 mints of Demo please ?

Buy X-540 you won't regret unless you have large hall filled with ppl during movie time. I have one but I'm far from you. Currently using it with 40" LCD for solely using HD Rip (720/1080p mkv) via my PC and the experience was awesome when come in sound experience in 11x12 room.

You need HDMI In in your Home Theater/AV Receiver only when you need to Pass Dolby Tru HD/Dolby Master Audio (DTS-MA)/Dolby Pro-Logic IIz for decoding purpose (HT/AVR must have equipped with these decoder to handle this new format). But if the file equipped with those and didn't recognize any decoder it simply turned in Hi Quality 5.1 Surround Sound....

So don't worry about that.

@dissel

Thanks bro.

My plan is this..

Use WDTV Live

HDMI Out to LCD Tv

Audit Out (Optical SPDIF) to Home theater

Do you get good effect if you connect WDTV Live to X540 ? I guess its component cable right

I use PC(Video Source)--->HDMI---->LCD TV

PC(Audio Source)---->Xonar DX--->X-540.

If your main requirement to use WDTV Live Or any Such Media Player's Optical Out (SPDIF),X-540 are not for you.

Please consider Logitech's Z5500 D which is currently 15-16k max.

X-540 can't take optical in. There was Y-Connector throw in the box pack which you can connect Red/White Audio cable but you can't get 5.1 Surround sound...Only normal stereo sound output...There is Matrix Mode switch available in the control pod but it is mimicking the normal stereo to a 5.1 output which is not effective, as well total BS compare to Original 5.1 output.

Where optical in source/cable can handle all standard Digital Source such as DD,DTS 5.1,Prologic IIx etc etc.

So decide accordingly.

praks your budget is under 10k and optical input in speakers or av recievers means they also have built in decoders also, that means if you connect a dvd player or anything with optical out then it goes directly to the 5.1 system(like z5500) and the 5.1 system decodes the digital signals to analogue and sending to individual speakers if you have a good sound card like xonar dx they will do the digital to analogue conversion and send it to 5.1 speaker system

options are x540+xonar dx or any sound card with 96khz/24 bit out for 5.1 and 192khz/24bit stereo out

you will definitely get quality for your budget

Thank you for help

Well I dont want to give any output from PC so Xonar is out of option.

I have seen few HT of Samsung (Z220 & Z230) with Optical In for around 10000 Rs... but audio effect is real crap. I tried playing Avatar 720p, but even at full volume sound was so low.

Do you recommend any HT with Optical in ?
