Hey,

I have a laptop running Vista Home Premium and a desktop running XP

I want to share files on my desktop with my laptop through the wireless internet connection ( I have a BSNL connection with the stock router)

How? :ohyeah:

I don't know which is the stock bsnl router, I am assuming you have a gateway device (modem+wifi router), if not then obviously you need a wifi router.

Considering the former, all you have to do is assign some fixed unique IP to your laptop(You wouldn't have to do this if you have dhcp enabled on the gateway). Now just put some folder on share on your desktop. Check desktop's ip. Put that ip in run command of your laptop. Eg."\\192.168.1.7". Press enter, it will show all the shared folders of your desktop, unless it is firewalled.

create an ad-hoc wifi network on any one of them and the other can join. search for step by step instructions on google
