A 2.66Ghz dual core is low performance eh? Don't compare it to it's bigger brothers, compare it to processors in that price range buddy (and for that matter, even yours). The point is if you have a limited budget but want to go dual core, you can for a low price. Can you get an AMD X2 under 15k even? Anyway, the D805 is not for someone who spends 50,000 to 100,000 a year on upgrades... it's for someone who wants good performance at a fair price.

A Athlon64 3200 costs just 6800, beats the D805 comprehensively in all the benchmarks other than the ones optimized for dual core cpus

The Conroe XE will cost id say ~1000$(about the same as the fx-62). And yea the pentium D 805 is a great VFM buy for people who do not want gaming but just multitasking and general use. For 7k-7.5k no other dc comes close. The pentium D 820 beats an fx-57 in multitasking, and i guess that this one shouldnt be far behind.
