Hi,
I had been really sick over the last month and was bed ridden. I had downloaded a ton of movies and TV shows to watch, but it was a pain to go every time to the PC to stop, Play resume etc. (I watch movies on my Home Theater connected to my PC via HDMI, and the PC has a dual monitor setup, with the Dell U3011 and 10809p plasma. )
I needed a remote while watching movies and though of every possible thing, unless I saw the PS3 media remote lying around and my PC blue tooth icon lying idle. Oh well, I though why can't I connect this and use it while watching movies, it will be way more convenient using a Media Remote than a wireless mouse and Keyboard. The media remote has dedicated keys for Play, Resume, Stop, Pause etc. So it was a no brain-er to connect the two.
So here it goes in 10 easy steps, I hope I don't lose you along the way:
1. Make sure that Bluetooth is up and running. (Its on board on my motherboard and Win 8's legacy drivers work great.)
2. You should see a Bluetooth icon in the system tray.
3. Press the <ENTER>+<START> keys for 10 seconds on your Remote Control to make it discoverable for other Bluetooth devices like your PC.
4. Then Go to the Bluetooth Icon on the system tray on your PC, and click "Add a new connection"
5. Select and Add the "BD remote control", once it is done proceed further.
Now go we will need an utility to translate the transmitted commands to VLC commands or to any other commands that you might wish to add:
6. I used the PS3 Bluetooth Remote Application found here:
http://www.benbarron.com/applications
Restart the computer after the installation has been completed.
7. Start the PS3 Bluetooth Remote Application, it will add an icon to the system tray.
Now we need to configure VLC player shortcut keys to this:
8. Click on the PS3 Remote Application icon in the system tray and select Configuration from the context menu. The configuration window will open.
9. Goto: http://www.shortcutworld.com/en/win/VLC-Media-Player.html to get a list of VLC
keyboard shortcuts and configure them in the PS3 Bluetooth Remote Application.
10. Assign Media Button to the suitable keyboard key combination of VLC shortcuts.
I don't know how many of you need this or have tried this, but it works great, way better then using a wireless Keyboard and mouse to watch movies. Hope this helps someone.
Thanks a lot for looking.
Cheers,
PS. Please let me know if this works for you guys or if you need me to add more detail or pictures or Screenshots. Also please let me know if I have missed out something, or if so0mething is not clear.[DOUBLEPOST=1363278563][/DOUBLEPOST]Mods, Sorry can you please move it to the right forum of "Guides and Tutorials"
All the help is much appreciated.
