My cousin has a Q6600 and he needs to cool it down.

What do you suggest? He wants to pick it up in the next couple of days when he's in B'lore. He stays in Delhi though.

Will it be easier to get it shipped to his place through Lynx?

If he's not heavy overclocker then OCZ Vanquisher @ 1.1-1.2k will do awesome job.

If he wants high end cooler kinda performance but want compact, light weight solution, nothing beats Thermalright Ultima 90i 2.2k, its awesome.

^ +1

Also in the same ~2.2k range, if he's not so keen on light weight and okay with a lil bit of mounting issue, Sunbeam CCF 120 would be awsome VFM

Its ~43*c max here in delhi these days, my e7200(3.4ghz) idle temp is ~ 40*c, at load its around 54-55 which is awsome for summers

either the sunbeamtech ccf or vendetta 2

also buy it locally since sometimes they dont fit motherboards that have heatpipes around the cpu area

Wont recommend HDT based coolers for Quad core processors. Doubt the avilability of the OCZ coolers as well. Nikhil, he'd be better off getting a TR Ultima 90i or a TRUE if he can spend close to 2.6k for the latter. He'll need a fan as well. Cheap ones like the Amigo 120mm perform well (for cheap i.e) if not in the leagues of the Panaflos and Scythes. Costs 170 bucks.

The Sunbeam CCF has a pathetic mounting so stay away from it. In fact even the OCZ v2 and the vanquisher IINM has a similar mount. Just not worth it.

Let us know the budget anyway.

EDIT: I think it's late already.

Dont underestimate HDT coolers :P
Relatively cheap CCF is able to keep i7 under 80C load.( that too with custom mount and not the i7 bracket. ).
The mount is actually very good. It does create problem on certain boards like Gigabyte P45 UD3P but it fits most motherboards and easy to mount. Perfect for noobies as well. :P
I prefer this mount to bolt through approach as I need to mount and dismount often.

No underestimation there. I'd a Xigmatek S1283 before and having used it I'd only one fact to vouch for: A VFM cooler (not cheap) that comes close to the TRUE and yet wont match its performance or go beyond. That was so true considering these coolers never came with a good mounting technique although they may claim they're not as heavy as the TRUE!

when any of these new hsf's can do what the true has achieved so far, only then can they claim to 'beat' the true :P

ps - random screenies from xs :D

And I must say I was all in shock and awe when I saw a true TRUE user taking his processor to the extremes using this one-of-a-kind cooler. Needless to say Shripad, you've done a 4.6G using an E8400 using a TRUE which i doubt if any HDT cooler would match! :P

And how exactly is CCF cheap? I thought it retailed for the 2.6k mark which's the same price for what the TRU retails for!

I dont really get y scythe mugen 2 never comes as a suggestion

Prolimatech Megahalems and 12 Other Coolers for Intel Core i7 Overclocking (page 18) - X-bit labs

cheapest cooler performs better than TRUE and comes with bundled fan with low noise, universal cooler (1366 too) and jus 40$ newegg

This one certainly needs credit for the performance and value it gives. How can ppl not notice it.

its now 2.4K with fan and TX2 bundle. Thats big plus on its side. If you bundle even TRUE with sorry @$$ Amigo fan, trust me its not as great combination as one would hope. And total waste of TRUE's potential.

For dual fans on TRUE, you also need to purchase 2 fans and additional clips.

For i7, you also need additional bracket. This all adds up to the cost ;)

TRUE is great, no doubt about it and its arguably still the best cooler out there.
But there are some new contenders out there at the moment like the Noctua U12P SE which seems to be doing really well on i7.
Costs $70 inclusive of 2 fans and LGA1366 mounting. Already ordered mine :P

SCCF @ 2.4k is gr8 deal, bundles fan is decent. Whereas OCZ bundles ARCTIC COOLING AF12025 Fluid Dynamic Bearing PWM 120mm fan, its 56CFM fan. Fan is awesome, cable is fully sleeved.

MADSHRIMPS has tested allmost all heatsinks, here's V2 vs SCCF -

3c~ differance, its w/ same paste and fan on both HSs. I m sure w/ default bundles of both heatsinks that 3c differance will vanish.

V2 is 2.49k via ebay, bundles TIM is crap, silicone based. Ergonomics wise V2 is sexy, SCCF is little wider than usual, worried abt reaching RAM slots and ATX 4/8pin cable after installing this in budget case.

Guys get back tot he topic, the guy is on Q6600 and needs a decent cooler, he is not interested in i7 coolers, just give him a good suggestion

A good cooler is good cooler :P

The cooler which is good for i7 will be equally good for Q6600 which also tend to run hotter than DC.

If the OP is ready to spend something close to 3k (possibly more with good fan ) then he can get the TRUE. All these coolers will provide an easy upgrade path to new socket if and when needed with the help of brackets.

On the other hand the CCF which will do the job very well will save him 500- 800 bucks over TRUE with savings on fans and thermal compound.

I told him not to go for CCF as the installation is a pain in you-know-where.

He ordered the Ultima 90 from lynx. It got delivered also. Now, he's ordered the 88 CFM Scythe fan. Slipstream something or the other.

^ good work buddy, HC forums compared U90i against stock cooler, using crap VID (1.325) Q6600 chip, differance is 19c.

This thing is so compact yet awesome results, maybe he should have gone for 92MM Panaflo Medium.

I would say this is a very effective cooler and I rate it "HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!" :D

In above review, Scythe S-Flex SFF21E 120mm was used.
