its February 1 and i have to buy a box the very next morning; this is what i'm offered:

e6300: 9100/-
asus p5b-vm: 7550/-
transcand 1gb 667: 5500/- (single stick!)
seagate 250gb sata: 4000/-
sony oem 18x dvd-rw: 1900/-

any suggestions? is anyone here using this p5b-vm board? please share your experience with me! and please hurry as its less than 15 hrs that i have to make a decision. my budget is 28k MAX! (For the BOX) Overclocking not required! dont forget to suggest a decent box and a psu as well!

i think the prices are a little higher. go in for the LG drive cheaper and good. e6300 last time i inquired was for about 8500 and the ram stick was available for 5200 bucks.

I'm not sure of exact rates of all these components, but am pretty sure that all these are cheaper than the prices quoted to you..

Wait for others to reply..

He is in Allahabad, so the prices are pretty reasonable assuming he got the quotes from there. :ohyeah: .

I did my M.Tech there and I know the situation of the computer market in the city there as I used to go around there every other week to get a spindle of 100 CD's. :ohyeah:. 4 years back, the dealers there told me they didn't stock anything ASUS as there was no market for that. Plenty of Intex and other cheapo brands, Intel is the premium brand for mobo's , but most go for mercury or other such brands.

@amul_mitm : By any chance are you @ IIIT-A ? ;)

get e6300 as u mentioned.

dont get the p5b-vm. get the msi neo 965 around 6k

1gb trancend is fine 5500.

hdd i would suggest to add 650rs more & get 320gb. so 4650rs

dvd rw get the lg h42n for 1800rs.

^ this total comes to 27020rs.

i dont think u can fit with cabinet & psu in 28k

cabinet i would suggest the chieftec bh-02 as i have to every1 its for around 3k.

psu i dont exactly know your rig. let us know ur full config to sugges the psu.

E4300 is probably not available in India and even if it were it should be priced around the 7k margin. Wait for E4300, couple it with the P5B VM assuming you don't game. Get the RAM modules for 4200 and then you can fit in a Powersafe 400watts PSU + Generic cabinet in your budget.

Why should we go for E4300 which is available for 9k when E6300 is available for 9.1k.

The E4300 is available for 9k in Mumbai and it overclocks out of the box to over 3gig speeds, which the E6300 takes effort to do.

Anyway, thats my suggestion.

One think I feel that we should'nt invest much on on the Motherboard which has Integrated Graphics. For example ASUS P5B-VM/ Intel DG965WH comes for around Rs. 7600/-, instead buying Boards like Gigabyte GA-945GM-S2 which comes for Rs. 4500/- coupled with NVidia's 7300GS 256MB Graphics Card (Rs.3500/-) makes more sense by just paying Rs. 400/- extra. Boards without Integrated Graphics have a different scenario (Specially Overclocking Ability) so in that case we cannot compare them.

What ever you do try to avoid a GS or SE based graphic card if you are buying a standalone one. Also, I don't know how the Asus P5B VM is, if it is similar to the Vanilla version, then you might prefer that as it may be a better performer and also more stable. Gaming isn't what you want to do anyway.

Normally I would try to avoid Asrock mobo unless extreme value is all you need or you are making a short term purchase.

another guy in the same boat....Budget 40K (Box + 17'' inch monitor LCD)

C2D based config and ocassional gaming...i have a 7600 GT or GTX in mind

I wud luv 2 hear u suggestions for the config....and i it wud be awesome if some1 knew the prices of these components in hyderbad...

as i see the prices are not fit for my pocket, i've postponed my rig for a week (or two)! so now the deadline is Feb 14. (VALENTINE'S DAY! PERFECT FOR THE LOVE OF MY LIFE! COMPUTER!!!)

if anyone missed the idea, i want a DX10 card when its out and out cheap (8600 series!) thats why integrated graphics. Buying the 6300 has the MINIMUM loss after april 22 pricing. (THE 4300 is available for 400/- less, hardly the big picture!) hence the processor. Now for the board, i've heard a lot about asus here and also intel (like the G965Dh and Ry boards are all sucka$$!) thats why i was trying for asus p5b-vm (integrated x3000 gfx and all goodies of the 965 bearlake!) AND NOW YOU KNOW WHY NO ASROCK (no, I MEAN NO 945 or 946!)

i could fix the ram issue by going for 512x2 533 dynet ram (3800/-) for now and upgrading ram when i go for higher clock c2d! i cant find 512mb 667 stick anywhere and cant go for 1gbx2 right now (tight budget, you see!)

@stormblast: like your suggestion about hdd and i absolutely mean no harm, but "agar main satak gaya ya sathiya gaya to bhi ek tin ke kanaster ke liye 3000/- nahin doonga!" and before replying angrily to this, thats what i think, and i'm on tight budget (you know, even if i wouldn't have been, i WOULD NOT buy A CHIEFTECH, ANTEC, COOLER MASTER or whatever!)

@Mr. Punjabi: i think i mentioned in my first post that OVERCLOCKING IS NOT MY BUSINESS. PERIOD. and on stock, 4300 is 800fsb while 6300 is 1066, and you know the price difference. need i say more?

@Lord Nemesis: Wow sirjee! looks like i'm sailing the same ship as you did a few years ago! doing m.tech. in here, final year, but not IIIT-A, its MNNIT instead! and i dont know why you searched for a spindle for weeks, as the first time i got to indra bhavan i knew THIS IS NOT THE BLOODY PLACE TO BUY ANYTHING! allahabad is expensive, not just for hardware but everything! (strange thing, books and stuff for study is cheap!) and thats why the prices are not of allahabad but of my home town INDORE, very near from mumbai and hence the prices are controlled directly from there, as the hardware supply is from there itself (a little from delhi also!)

The dealer who quoted me 9.1k for 6300 said he has sold it for 8.3k but at the moment its expensive, and thats why he has no stock for the processor and the price is valid for 3 days only! rest of the prices seemed fine to me, and i searched every where (in my home town that is...) and so the postponement. Now please suggest wisely as my vacation is ending pretty soon.

Well, I never said I searched for CD's did I. ;) What I said was that I went to get a supply of CD'S every other week and got to know the dealers and what and how they sell. CD's are the only thing they have in plenty there and I used to get them in Indira Bhavan itself and its probably the best computer market there and you would know the state of the market there.

As for the prices, I was earlier wondering how you even got a quote for a Core 2 and an ASUS mobo in Allahabad. your post explained it to me. Anyway its better to get the stuff at you place rather than Allahabad. Heck I had purchased a Mobile during that time and could not get a SIM card for 6 months.

Now things to consider about your machine, Try to get a full ATX board rather than a mATX If you have plans for some decent mid-high end GPU in the future. mATX boards are cramped due to the size and ventilation and cooling for the components can be a problem when you install a heat generating GPU. look for boards based on the G965 chipset, theres one full ATX board from gigabyte GA-965G-(D)S3. I don't know about its availability or cost.

If you are gonna use the machine in allahabad, try to get a cabinet with as litte steel exposed as possible. There are cabinets with plastic side panels. The reason is that for some reason, the air there quickly corrodes the metal in the cabinet. My cabinet rusted when I had it in Allahabad.
