Hi all,

I guess the Title says it all. I know most of you will bash the Core 2 Quad. But firstly i want to make my usage pretty much clear.

1. Gaming

2. Max / Maya Rendering

3. Lot of Photoshopping. HDR Photography and all

4. Regular HD movies and all that

Now I know that games are still not designed to use multiple cores and all and that is why i wont see much difference in the quad. But my question is, even if i dont see a performance boost in the quad, will it perform worse than the core 2 duo. Even if it performs tha same in gaming, i would prefer a quad as it will really give me a boost in rendering. In fact i saw on benchies that the quad one gives 87% boost in max. (compared to e6600).

So please let me know. What should i get.

E6850 ( 1333 Mhz, 4 Mb L2 Cache, 3ghz)

Q6600 (1066 Mgz, 2 x 4MB L2 Cache, 2.4 Ghz)

Thanks a lot

I was thinking of posting almost the same thing. My choices are Q6600 and E6750.

My usage is VMware (sometimes 3-4 vms at a time), customizing and building distros, dev work in c++ and python, once in a while movies.

I have gathered some info and have pros and cons for both, maybe itll help both of us.

Q6600
Pros -
Will definitly handle multitasking and multi thread apps better than C2
Will be the only quad affordable by August. Ive waited enough, cant wait for true quads to arrive
Since I build my comp once in 3-4years, I think its the latest vfm I can get in long term use

Cons -
Heat might definitely be an issue (mostly be getting TT120, but is it enough?)
Q6600 is not a true quad
Not sure about the real performance advantage to a E6600 or E6750

E6750
Pros -
1333 FSB (not sure what diff it might make :))
I think its good enough for my needs (i.e right now)
Will run cooler than a quad

Cons -
For 3-4 years use, I will be settling for a lower end CPU
