Q9550 is down to $339.99 and Q9650 for $559.99

Newegg.com - Intel Core 2 Quad Q9550 Yorkfield 2.83GHz 12MB L2 Cache LGA 775 95W Quad-Core Processor - Processors - Desktops

Newegg.com - Intel Core 2 Quad Q9650 3.0GHz 12MB L2 Cache LGA 775 Quad-Core Processor - Processors - Desktops

I would have gone in for Q9650 eyes closed if it had been priced sub 20k. :P I could go in for it even for 25k, but spending 25k on a CPU just doesn't look right.

Anyway planning to go for Q9550 (mostly) once price cuts get applied in India,

Held out on the E8500 purchase for this.

either wait for cuts and keep watching / drooling... else buy the best you can afford and take the ride dude...

in many ways tech gadgets / products are like gals.... so make your choice... its gonna get boring (read outdated) pretty soon.. and then there is always new one on the block every other time you go shopping...

for me.. happy with the 7200 i am buying.... no frills and thrill... but way better than the amd 3600+ i am using.... only i need to figure out which mobo to take with it...

anyway best of luck for the quad enthusiasts... this news must sound music to them...

Gr8 to see such a nice price ! one thing for sure Mumbai gets the last price cut effect

IME Prime site prices are always significantly off. Lynx is selling the Q9550 at under 15K, a pretty good deal if you ask me. I'm tempted but I need a new board as my 680i won't run it at all. And a new video card is already in the wings, so I need to resist for some more time.

I should have got mine from Amarbir last weekend, But he had only two pieces available, one was booked for someone else and another one (which he kept for me) was seen up by some guy from outside chandigarh who visited him for some hardware and ate his head for it till he sold it to him.

Anyway, I will be getting mine in this week along with OCZ Vendetta 2.

Hey I have a 680i Mobo too, lemme know if you find a good solution :)

^^There ain't one. The 680i will run 45nm dual-core chips (I think) but not the quads. Not ever. I will need a new board, but this time I'm thinking very hard about switching back to AMD. I've just about had it up to here with Intel.
